Situated at 4,118 feet, Highlands, North Carolina is breathtaking destination on the southern plateau of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The vibrant mountain village, with breathtaking vistas, waterfalls, and wooded forest, draws visitors from around the world. Stroll along Main Street and explore unique shopping, dining, museums, arts, and entertainment. Embrace the mountain spirit with live music, theater, and art galleries in one of America’s Top Twelve Small-Town ArtPlaces. Discover spectacular mountain trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding, as well as sparkling lakes and rivers for tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting.

Highlands is known for its beautiful seasons and stunning visuals. Springtime is when the native Mountain Laurel blankets the forest in vibrant pink, fall introduces a symphony of color with the changing leaves, and winter ushers in clear views and the alabaster of fallen snow. The pristine mountain air and panoramic beauty fills you with serenity at our Highlands, NC mountain resort.

We spent the morning chasing waterfalls and enjoying the Whiteside Mountain Trail.

Afterwards, we shopped our way down Main Street and back. Honey’s dad had a house in Cashiers, North Carolina for many years and we always made a jaunt over to Main Street in Highlands on our visits. It’s been about 17 years since our last visit, but in our minds (at least) it didn’t seem to have changed too much.

Lunch was al fresco at Four65. We split a salad and pizza, both were delicious. The spring sunshine and mountain air just can’t be beat.

We were parked in our chairs at the Hickory Pool by 1PM and didn’t move an inch until the sun started setting on us.

We had a late dinner seating at 8:30 PM, so we dressed and headed back to Hummingbird Lounge for a bite (more pimento cheese and spicy buttermilk crackers!) and cocktail.

And, our evening ended with a scrumptious and romantic meal at Madison’s.

  1. What a wonderful 20th anniversary celebration! God bless you both and your sweet family as you continue to grow in love through your life. Hubs and I are celebrating 45 years this year and have experienced many health issues for him in the past 10 years. We still have lots of fun, but it’s great to look back on our milestone anniversary celebrations over the years! Make memories!
