Steakhouse 71 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

UPDATED REVIEW AUGUST 2023

Steakhouse 71 opened last fall at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in the space that previously housed The Wave. Named for the year the Contemporary Resort first opened, Steakhouse 71 harkens back to the design style of the 1970s, reimagined in a contemporary, comfortable and sleek way. You’ll even notice some Florida flair—such as Orange Bird and citrus groves—mixed in with the décor. As you enter the restaurant, take time to soak in all the incredible details in the vintage photos from Walt Disney World’s earliest days.

Since opening, I have dined here twice – once at the bar and once in the dining room. Both dinners were very good and I’ll absolutely be back again.

Steakhouse 71 Lounge

Settle into comfortable lounge seating and sip on beverages reminiscent of the 1970s. Enjoy drinks inspired by the history of the area, including cocktails that evoke scents of citrus groves, and so much more. My favorite on both visits was the Pear French 75. You will enjoy modern interpretations of classic dishes, such as PB&J Chicken Wings, Loaded Macaroni and Cheese and the house classic Bacon and Eggs. The lounge and bar areas are first come first served and do fill up.

Steakhouse 71 Dining Room

At dinner, you will feast on a delicious menu that offers a nod to Walt Disney himself! Classic cocktails and a portfolio of Disney family wines are also available.

On both visits, we started with the Steakhouse 71 Onion Rings – Hand-breaded with Spicy Ranch Dipping Sauce. I’m not a huge onion ring fan, but not a bite was left uneaten. :-)

Both the Filet and New York Strip are tasty and were perfectly cooked. We prefer the Red Wine Sauce over the others and I must insist everyone orders the delicious Au Gratin Potatoes. (SO GOOD!)

The Steakhouse 71 Chocolate Cake, with layers of  Whiskey infused Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Mousse, Raspberries, is a decadent ending.

I would not leave Magic Kingdom to make a special trip over here, but I think it is a solid choice for any Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower guests and also a convenient choice for those at Polynesian or Grand Floridian. I can’t wait to go back!
