THIS is the day we all were anticipating from the moment we heard we were coming to Asheville…. golf, spa and a sunset dinner at the Grove Park Inn! And it was just as dreamy as we had hoped.
Honey and I started the day with breakfast and coffee on the terrace. It’s a spectacular view overlooking the golf course, Asheville and Blue Ridge mountains.
Honey and Whit headed off to play golf for the day. They didn’t take any photos but said it was one of their favorite days playing together… ever! The weather was perfect and they said the course was gorgeous.
Meanwhile, I spent from 9AM – 4:15PM in the spa. Oh.My. Words just do not do it justice. I had always heard it was “the best spa”. I’ve tried to think of a better spa experience and cannot. I started in the relaxation room before my massage, which was truly spectacular. Then, I spent the rest of the day enjoying the spa amenities. Twenty water features, including numerous mineral-based pools, complement the subterranean spa with cavernous rock walls, arches and tunnels. There are two therapeutic waterfall pools as well as a lap pool blanketed with fiber-optic stars and underwater music. next were the exhilarating contrast pools, inhalation rooms, saunas and eucalyptus-infused steam rooms. I read and sipped tea in the fireside lounge, snacked in the sunshine with my feet propped up on one of the outdoor fire pits, colored in one of the open air relaxation rooms, and enjoyed lunch from the spa cafe at the outdoor spa pool. Every single moment was spectacular. My only regret was that I didn’t have someone to share it with. :-)
John arrived just about exactly the time that we finished up golf and spa. We spent the rest of the evening dining and chatting over dinner at the Sunset Terrace. The food was okay. The views and company were unmatched.
Lacrosse starts tomorrow, with games at 8, 10, 12, 2, 4 and 6.
