Forever Gifts 2021

As all the holidays approach and I’m starting to think of fun ways to celebrate 2023, I realized I never shared my boys Forever Gifts from the past few years.

If you’ve been around here for a little bit, you will know that since both of my boys have birthdays within a month of Christmas we give them a “forever gift” every year to celebrate rather than a toy, hoodie or video game.  This gift is something that we hope they will have forever, rather than something that is quickly tossed aside or outgrown.

For 2021, I had each of them a custom monogram designed by Shuler Studio to match mine. (Bonus: John and Honey have the same initials!) She does beautiful work and is very affordable. I then had my embroiderer digitize them for embroidery so that they would have the high res images for print and embroidery files for monograms. At the same time, she did two pillows for each of them!

I put both of John’s on his bed.

And one of Whit’s in his chair. The other is packed away in his box for “later”.

Last year I gave Whit a painting of Anna that is absolutely precious. It is currently back with the artist getting a clear protective coating (along with Elsa) and I’ll take pics as soon as I have returned it to the wall. I cannot, for the life of me, remember what I gave John. My brain is a little foggy still. Hopefully I’ll share both real soon. :-)

You can see some of the things they have received over the years here. I’ve got to put my thinking cap on for 2023. Birthdays are coming up SOON!

  1. I love the monograms. I’ve always loved your custom monogram too. Here is a question that has always stumped me: For a married person, what two letters do you put in a 2-letter monogram like this? I know the etiquitte for a 3-letter monogram for a married couple, but can you please share what letters to use if I were to go w/one of these 2-letter monograms for things like powder room hand towels, napkins, pillowcases, etc???? Thank you!

    1. My first and last is the same as Honey’s first (of the name he goes by) so it works either way for us. I think in this situation, it depends on what you are monograming. For a couple, I’d do each of their first initials. You can also have them designed with 3 letters!
