Around Atlanta {Yalda}

We spent a beautiful evening with friends over dinner at Yalda this weekend. It’s been on our list for a while now, and it was the perfect way to kick off the holiday break! We dined at the Sandy Springs location. The restaurant is lovely, service was great and the food was delicious.

Yalda translates to rebirth of the “sun”, the longest night of the year in the Iranian calendar. The idea for “Yalda” sparked from celebrating time with loved ones, sharing food, reading poetry and reminiscing.

I’d heard about their fantastic cocktail menu and absolutely loved the Hafez’s Last Word. I also got to try The Longest Night, which was also quite good.

For the table we started with the roasted haloumi cheese and Spread Tasting. We included these three:

KASHK BADEMJOON | fried eggplant, cream of whey, crispy onions & garlic, mint
MIRZA GHASEMI | smoked eggplant, tomato, garlic
ZA’ATAR LABNEH | strained yogurt, za’atar, olive oil

The portions on the specialty entrees were huge! I did the beef shish kabob with adas polo (lentil and raisin rice). I took home most of it, but the boys had devoured it by the time I woke up the next day! :-)

The menu is very similar to one of our favorites – Rumi’s Kitchen. I think Rumi’s still eeks out the number one spot for me when comparing the two.

Of course, most nights out are most memorable for the company – which was top notch. We’ve developed the nicest friendship with the families of John’s two best friends and dine out as a group regularly!
