We always like to add at least one new experience to the lineup on every Disney Cruise. Since we were on a 7-night sailing, we added a couple. This included our first World of Old Fashioned tasting.
When it comes to creating the perfect Old Fashioned, there’s a recipe to please nearly every palate—and therein lies its beauty. Whether tracing the cocktail back to its origins, with a sugar cube and splash of water, or taking a modern twist on the classic, with simple syrup and bitters, you’ll discover a highly enjoyable cocktail sure to delight all your senses.
In the one hour tasting, we tried four different versions of the Old Fashioned, using a variety of liquors, bitters and sugars to prepare the drinks. I understand the varieties you will taste are heavily dependent on the bartender hosting the tasting and will vary widely across the fleet and even on the same ship.
I hate to even say this, but the host for this experience didn’t seem to have much experience with the experience. It wasn’t up to the normal Disney standard. He was kind and funny, but stumbled over the different whiskey’s and how they had been prepared for us.
I am not a regular Old Fashioned drinker, but Honey does love them which is why I chose this experience. For the price, I wish they had prepared the drinks during the session so we could have learned techniques. Instead, they were all pre-made and by the time we got to the last one the ice had all but melted. Overall, we left not entirely impressed by this, despite having only heard good reviews from others.
