Auburn University {Last Supper Before Send-off}

If you followed along on Instagram, you’ll know that John is all moved in at Auburn. It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and I have so much to share here on the blog! I’ll start with our last Sunday Supper the night before our departure.

I’ve been making all of his favorite meals for the last two weeks of summer, and that culminated in his #1 – Cottage Pie and Creme de Menthe Brownies.

I set the table with all the Auburn things I had saved for just this occasion. I picked up the napkins in the bookstore at orientation, and found the tiger cakes in the grocery store earlier this summer. I added the Auburn glasses to our Catstudio collection a few months ago.

A pennant flag and pom poms turned confirmation flowers into a cute themed centerpiece!

Mother and Daddy-O were in town for Whit’s confirmation and stayed a few extra days to watch him while we were in Auburn. Then, Sister, Uncle J and Cee popped by at the last minute. It ended up being such a special dinner with them present. We pulled chairs in from other rooms and all soaked up the last night with John at the table for a while. Having everyone gathered around him made it all seem so much happier and definitely lightened my mood.

After everyone left, I spent hours on the sofa with John. As a wise reader told me, he will come home. We will have suppers here and holidays here and make memories here. But, I felt like we were on the precipice of monumental change as a family this night. (I still feel that way.)

All week I’ve tried to keep up a courageous front for his sake, but inside I’ve felt like my heart was actually breaking. (I still do.) I hated that we couldn’t bring Whit for the move in, but it was probably best to have said this goodbye at home. <3

I have SO much more to share about our week! I promise it isn’t all sad, but I also always promise to be real here. <3 Stay tuned!

  1. It is sad with the first one-and a kind of scary change in your life. But having put two kids thru college and marrying one off(no one tells you how hard that can hit you)-it is so fun having adult kids. Watching them navigate life and do amazing things that make you so proud-it does truly get better and better. Hope you all have a great first year!
