We had THE BEST time in Auburn for our first fraternity parent’s weekend. Whit came along this time and it was so fun and special to have him experience Auburn with us. John absolutely loves Acre – and Whit is our little foodie – so we decided to do dinner there before heading over to Sigma Chi. Everything was scrumptious and I am so glad we did our own dinner so we could have a little time together before the big event.
The Sigma Chi’s planned a fun filled weekend and we were all impressed with their efforts! Friday night was a dinner and cocktail party with a band. They have an amazing space and we were thrilled to meet so many of John’s new friends and their families. His big-big brother is one of our neighbors that we’ve known for 15 years, so it was wonderful to have a couple familiar faces in the crowd. And, one of Honey’s fraternity brothers married one of my sorority sisters and they have two kids at Auburn (one a Sigma Chi), so it was great to catch up with them, too.
Saturday we were up bright and early and started our morning at Tiger Walk. We wanted to do allll the Auburn things!
Next, we were off to the White Tents. We have so many friends with kids at Auburn that I had to make a little cheat sheet of notes on who was to be found where :-) It was SO MUCH FUN! We don’t tailgate like this at Georgia Tech, y’all.
Honey got us amazing tickets to the game and it was my first college football game not AT Georgia Tech. WOW! We arrived early to see the eagle fly. I had chills. What a special tradition. Right after, the whole stadium sang God Bless America. It was a moment I won’t forget.
All of the pomp and circumstance was so spirited and enjoyable. I told Honey that I didn’t realize what it would feel like to be in a stadium where nearly everyone was cheering for the same team. It felt like Vandy had a small sliver of section. At GT games, the away fans seem to fill half! John was pretty sad that Auburn didn’t win, but I’ve never been one that went to a sporting event for the outcome. LOL.
After the game we went back to the White Tents for a bit. Then, John wanted to introduce us to Mama G’s. We lucked out with some great seats at the bar. It was a gorgeous day and a fun post game spot for a quick bite to eat.
Our day ended back at the Sigma Chi house for another band party!
The kids were still Halloween-ing, so John was out long after the rest of us had hit the hay. (His childhood friend)
Sunday morning we picked John up for brunch back at Acre. It was our first time for lunch or brunch and was phenomenal! I am dreaming about this meal four days later.
What was asked what year he is so.many.times during our visit. He would just say “sophmore” and kind of smirk a bit before clarifying “in high school”. Then he would get asked if he is coming to Auburn too. We kept telling him this was his first college visit and so he kept replying “right now it is #1 of 1”. :-) I am just now adjusting to John being gone. I cannot take thinking about Whit leaving too. <3
Many thanks to the Sigma Chis, to all of our White Tent friends and to John for showing us a top weekend!
