Whit’s Sweet Sixteen

Every single day for the last sixteen years this child has brought immeasurable joy and love to the lives of all that know him.  And, sixteen years later I still fall to my knees with gratefulness for how lucky I am to have him.

He’s funny, quirky, smart, honest, sensitive, laid back and independent.   He has a witty, dry sense of humor that is beyond his years. While he continues to do well in school he’d still rather be doing anything but school. He works on his golf game by afternoon and practices the cello by evening. At home he helps with any job or task at any time without complaint – and usually without a word at all. He’s a quiet kid. He continues to impress us with his creations in the kitchen. As y’all know, he loves Anna and Elsa with his whole heart. He also logs an insanely ridiculous number of hours playing video games with friends.

I pray that Whit remains grounded in God’s love, and that he knows that his family loves him wholly and unconditionally.  I pray that he continues to know how special he is in his uniqueness and that he never feels pressure to conform or be anyone other than himself.  I pray that he is courteous and chivalrous.  I pray that he realizes you only need one or two good friends, as opposed to a wide circle of acquaintances as he navigates the teens and every year beyond. I pray these dear friends are warm, true, trustworthy and respectful, and that Whit embodies the same qualities in return. As he takes the drivers seat, I pray that he is calm and safe on the road and realizes the great responsibility that comes with the license. I pray that he will value hard work and see the value he brings to every table. And, I pray that he continues to be uninhibited in his happiness and know true joy.

Happy birthday precious son. I love you more than you could ever imagine.

  1. Happy 16th Whit! It is so evident your family loves and admires all your talents and qualities that make you! I just want you to know you have made me a culinary star in my family with your maple cheesecake creation. I am requested over and over to please bring the cheesecake. I want you to know though, I have given you all the credit and they were all impressed that someone so young could have those type of cooking skills. Best wishes on all your academic, sports, music, cooking and other interests. Please have your mom give us an update sometime on your work with the K-9 corps. I think that is a great program.
