Teen Boy Room Styled Bookshelves

Last year I worked with John to choose a new bookshelf for his bedroom and to style it with more current things he wanted to showcase. We also made a few other tweaks, primarily adding Auburn to touches, which I’ll share soon.

The bookshelves are from Ikea Billy Collection. I chose these because the stain leans charcoal in color, which matches his bed well. The previous shelf came from our old house sixteen years ago. I aways thought it was a little too ornate for this room, and a little too red in color. He loved the look and simplicity of this one, and I loved the price.

I laid out all sorts of options of things to go inside and he picked the things he wished to showcase. It was also his idea to add his lacrosse helmets. I then put it all together for him. I loved how it looks, and everyting there represents a special stage or phase of his life. I figure it will continue to evolve over time.

Items I had saved that he didn’t choose to include were either parted with or stored in a box in the top of his closet. <3 Now, if only I could get little brother to care what his room looks like. HA!
