Making Halloween Happy {A Simple, Sparkly Halloween Craft}

I’m not sure I’ll go all out on Halloween décor once Whit heads off to college…. because let’s face it, if John is any indicator, they won’t be home much in the fall to see it anyway. (Don’t worry… Christmas is safe!)

So for now, instead of adding to my Halloween collection, I’m getting creative with a few fun, inexpensive crafts to freshen things up without bringing more bins into the attic.

This year, I wanted a classic jack-o’-lantern look in the dining room and found the perfect starting point -those bright orange plastic Halloween buckets from Walmart! A little glue, black glitter, and ribbon were all it took to give them a more custom look.

For place cards, I grabbed mini pumpkins (also from Walmart!) and gave them the same glitter-and-ribbon treatment. I used my Cricut to add orange vinyl names to the ribbon. It only took minutes, and since I had everything on hand, it didn’t cost me a dime.

The best part? The whole project came together in under an hour and instantly made the table feel festive. I’ll share a full look at the dining room soon, but for now, I couldn’t resist giving this little sneak peek.

  1. For my daughter’s Halloween Party we are implementing a thing I saw where you take the small Walmart pumpkins, drill a couple holes in the bottom (to avoid water retention should it rain) and then put over the outdoor cafe lights to make it extra festive. I believe you remove the handles and replace them with zip ties. Anyway, looks cool and now I’m just waiting to give it a try!
