October Sips & Suits Mahjong Club

We had our regularly scheduled monthly Mahj last night! It was a smaller, more intimate group of eight this time – and honestly, it was just perfect.

Over the past year, I’ve learned that setup makes all the difference. Instead of rearranging furniture and dragging out extra square tables, I now use the spaces I already have. It’s so much easier! For this meet, we had one table in the den and one out on the porch. It was an absolutely gorgeous fall evening to play under the twinkle lights!

Through a year of trial and error, I’ve discovered that twelve players is the magic number for our monthly meets. Any more than that, and it becomes a full-scale furniture shuffle. To keep things simple, I’ve capped our Sign Up Genius at twelve spots. Two days before each game night, I send a reminder and ask anyone who can’t make it to let the group know right away so another player can take the spot. We use GroupMe for easy communication… it’s been a game changer (pun intended).

As always, we nibbled on cheese, chocolate, and crackers and popped a little bubbly to get things started. There’s just something so joyful about a house full of laughter, clinking tiles, and good friends.

And the fun continues… I’ll be hosting a newly formed neighborhood group later this month!!
