Halfway Through the Holiday

Honey and I intended to sneak away with the boys for a short, relaxing getaway for the first half of the break week. With my recent work travel and Honey’s project deadlines, the last couple of months were absolutely gobbled up. As much as I crave family time away, I also try to always keep in mind that the boys’ work is their school, and school is demanding. A quick check-in with them led us to a unanimous decision… Stay home. And, honestly, it was the best choice we could have made!

We both worked tirelessly to get the Christmas décor up and to wrap up our basement redo – a project we’ve had on our list far too long. We wanted to accomplish as much as humanly possible before John’s return last Friday, and I’m thrilled to say… we’re almost there!

With that behind us, we mapped out a little stay-cation plan that has been fun and relaxing. Here’s how we spent the first half of the week:

✨ Pho take-out from Whit’s favorite spot – he was determined John needed to try it
⛳ Family golf day and my first time swinging a club! (The boys gave me clubs, balls, a glove and even the outfit almost two years ago… it was past time.)
🍽️ Dinner with friends at a new restaurant while the boys enjoyed delivery at home
✨ Hot chocolate and catch up with Honey’s golf partner after surgery
🎲 A stack of new family games… reviews coming next week
🧁 All the goodies at home: dips, fajitas, breakfast sandwiches, cupcakes, hot cocoa
✨ Cheered on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Tomorrow, Mother and Daddy-O join us. From there it’s full steam ahead with John’s birthday, Thanksgiving, GT vs UGA, Nutcracker and allllllll the things.

As I sit here tonight, listening to the sounds of boys and some sporting event drifting up from the basement, with the twinkle of Christmas lights all around and a mostly crossed off to do list beside me, I’m reminded that the goodness of this season isn’t always found in far-off places or perfectly executed plans. Sometimes the sweetest memories are made right here, under your own roof on an ordinary Wednesday with the people you love most in this world.

Here’s to the second half of the holiday… let’s do this!
