I had the biggest surprise this month, and I am still smiling about it.
Bestie M and I have a long-standing birthday dinner tradition, and since she moved about an hour away, it did not seem strange at all when she suggested we celebrate a little early this year. We had a lovely dinner, caught up on everything under the sun, and then headed back to my house for our usual mahjong night.

Or so I thought.
While we were out at dinner, one of our sweet friends had snuck over to my house and set up the cutest birthday table for me. When we walked in and I saw it, I was completely caught off guard. It was festive and thoughtful and just so very “me.”

And then out came the cake. She made a Very Vera strawberry birthday cake, which was almost too cute to cut into, but not quite. It was delicious and perfectly pink and exactly what you want for a birthday celebration. True friendship has got to be baking a cake for someone from scratch! A few of the other ladies brough a few of my favorites – chocolate covered strawberries, macarons and cheese straws. It was heaven!

As if that were not enough, the entire group had gone in together on the most fun gift. A travel set for my tiles, racks, and mat, all in pink and monogrammed just for me. I mean. Could it be more perfect?

It was truly the sweetest kickoff to my 50th birthday celebrations. I felt so loved and so known.

I am endlessly grateful for this group of women and the way we intentionally make time to gather every single month. Life is busy and calendars are full. But this little rhythm of dinner and tiles and laughter has become such a gift.
Oh…. and another sweet, sweet detail was that they all dressed in colorful Valentine’s attire!

February mahjong will be hard to top. The countdown to FIFTY is on!
