A New Year, A New Hobby

Last year I really leaned into learning new things and it brought me so much joy. With John off at Auburn and Whit an upperclassman in high school, I suddenly found myself with a little more time on my hands and a heart that wanted to guard and grow during this season of life. I had the best time learning mahjong, diving into sourdough, and joining my very first book club.

I knew I wanted to keep that spirit of learning going in 2026 and, after a good bit of encouragement from bestie M, decided it was finally time to try needlepoint. I asked Honey and the boys to get me started for Christmas, and they did not disappoint. They signed me up for a two-day, six-hour class at The Nimble Needle.

I was thrilled when my friend L decided to join me. We had the best time stitching, chatting, and learning all the basics together. I am a total novice, but I can already tell this is going to be one of the highlights of 2026.

All of the ladies in our class were just so lovely and fun. They came from all over the city, which makes sense since The Nimble Needle is one of the few needlepoint shops in Atlanta.

And the shop itself is truly a little slice of crafter’s paradise. I was completely awe struck when I first walked in. There are expansive farmhouse tables and cozy little nooks filled with women stitching, chatting, and working on the most beautiful canvases. It felt warm and welcoming right away, and you can just tell it is the kind of place where women gather in the most positive and joyful way.

I think I’ll use my learning canvas to continue to practice but am not entirely motivated to finish it out (the colors are so bold!) Instead, I’ve ordered my first canvas from the shop (a USA flag!), but in the meantime bestie M painted two personal canvases for me!

Here’s to sweet friends and learning new things!
