March & April Musings

My last musings update was nearly two months ago.

March was completely consumed by my birthday, which I truly cannot complain about. It was entirely my doing… and I have zero regrets. After all of those festivities, we rolled right into spring break, so it has been a full stretch.

Now that things are settling down a bit, here’s what’s been going on lately.

I splurged on a bottle of our mutual favorite champagne when my bestie came up to spend the afternoon with me before mahjong. I had just seen it at a restaurant where a single glass was nearly half the cost of a full bottle, which made the decision feel very easy. I almost texted Honey to pick it up on his way home, but I knew he would say La Marca would be just fine. So, like a real diva, I had it Instacarted to myself at 9:15 in the morning. Ha. Worth it. (Also, I NEVER do stuff like this so it felt quite spontaneous of me.)

I’m still making and tending to sourdough at least once a week. With just the three of us, we sometimes have a hard time finishing a full loaf, so I’ve started making two minis. I wrap one tightly for later and cut into the other right away. It’s been the perfect solution.

Whit came home all grins a few weeks ago, bouncing around my office saying, “This is not a big deal. I promise it’s not a big deal. I’m going to tell you something, but it’s NOT A BIG DEAL.” Hahaha. Surely he wouldn’t think I’d be the one to overreact.

Anyway… a friend in his group did a promposal at school, and he said yes. It is just the cutest. He told me he needed to do one back, but I assured him only one person asks. Like when your dad asked me to marry him and I said yes… I didn’t then ask him. But he really wanted to, and honestly, I think it’s so sweet. If this had been a thing in my day, I would have loved it. He ended up putting together the cutest one for her, too. (Her favorite drink is the refresher at Starbucks.)

It’s hard to believe, but his junior golf season is almost wrapped up. It was a good one.

I had a moment a few weeks ago where Whit was out, Honey wasn’t hungry, and I couldn’t figure out what I wanted for dinner. I ended up coming home with… quite the assortment. It’s slightly embarrassing, but also, whatever. I’m fifty years old. It started with a cheesy bean and rice burrito from Taco Bell, then I added a soft taco. They don’t have Coke, and I knew that would really complete the meal, so I swung through McDonald’s… and couldn’t resist the fries. At that point, any semblance of healthy was out the window, so I added dessert from Crumbl. I enjoyed every last bite. (I did share the cookies.)

I did a little something in the den and am completely in love. I’ll share that soon.

I dusted off my favorite lasagna recipe, and it’s just as good as ever. I split it into two square pans, cooked one, and froze one. We pulled the second out this week, and it was such a gift to have a homemade meal ready to go.

A few of my college friends and I have started something new where each of us takes a turn planning a day outing for the group. E kicked it off with foot massages followed by the most delicious lunch at her club. I don’t know who is next, but my wheels are already turning.

My sweet neighbor bestie always hosts a Masters party, and we had to miss it this year since we were coming home from spring break. On Monday morning, she showed up at my door with the most incredible tray of goodies for lunch. It was the kindest gesture. It was perfect timing since I hadn’t made it to the grocery store yet. Also… here’s to the friends who text to pop by and don’t bat an eye when you say you’re still in your jammies, working, and will try to brush your teeth before they arrive… but can’t promise.

And lastly… this weed is quite literally plaguing me. I cannot. After posting on Instagram, I learned it’s dollar weed. I asked for suggestions and of course people said weed killer… I’m not completely clueless. Haha. We’ve used it in open areas, but this stuff is all up in my shrubs. The good news is, I also learned it thrives in overwatered areas. One thing led to another, and now we think we may have a sprinkler system leak. So… hoping to fix that and finally get this under control.

As for this past week, we’ve been busy getting the yard cleaned up and ready for spring and summer. The pollen is finally starting to slow, so we tackled our big pressure washing on Sunday afternoon. I also planted all of my pots and the garden, which always makes everything feel fresh again.

The next few weeks are shaping up to be full… a wedding shower this weekend, prom the next and a golf banquet somewhere in the mix. John will be coming home for just a few days before he starts his summer internship (we are so, so proud of him but I’m so, so sad he won’t be coming home.)

A good kind of busy, and I’m here for it.
