Needlepoint Notes {My First Stitches}

Last month, I shared that I was diving into needlepoint, and I thought it would be fun to check in now that I’m about a month in… my “needlepoint career,” if you will. :-)

So far, it has been exactly what I hoped. Creative, relaxing and just enough of a challenge to keep me engaged. I love listening to an audio book and stitching away.

First up is the bracelet kit my bestie painted for my birthday. It’s self-finishing, but not yet finished. I did complete the stitching though, which feels like a win.

I’m also nearly done with the black bow she painted as a memento from my 50th birthday. I absolutely adore this one and am very proud of how it’s turning out. I poured through my stitch book to chose the prettiest options for what I envisioned and I LOVE how the bow is a bit puffy. I’ll eventually have it finished as a Christmas ornament, which makes it even more special.

I brought my WiFi password canvas with me to Arizona and stitched away while we were there. I loved having something to work on during downtime… it’s the kind of hobby that travels well. That said, I’m not loving the stitches I chose, and I keep going back and forth on whether to rip it all out and start over. I keep reminding myself there’s no grade here. It’s supposed to be fun. Do what you love. And then, of course, my Type A tendencies kick in and I’m suddenly questioning everything. Such is the process, I suppose. I also did a color swap on this one and chose fibers to match my guest suite. I do love how that part is turning out! I plan to frame it and then use the cricut to add the actual wifi password. I am trying to choose projects that will be used or useful, as opposed to a bunch of little items to sit around the house.

I thought I’d also share a few things I’m loving so far, along with how I’m organizing everything at this early stage… very much still learning as I go.

That’s all for now! Can’t wait to snuggle up on the sofa with my bow, book and puppies in a few hours!

  1. Hi Amanda! I would love to know where you got the pattern for the Wi-Fi password! I love that it’s pretty and useful and would like to make one for my guest room as well! Thanks!

  2. I have been needlepointing since I was a teen. My heyday for creative output was my twenties and early thirties! (I still run into college friends who mention needlepoint wedding gifts I made them which they still display.) My mom was a professional level stitcher who taught classes and worked at a needlepoint shop. You have come along so quickly and your projects look just lovely. It is nice to see needlepoint having a kind of resurgence in interest. Enjoy!

  3. Would love a series on the Cricut, unless there’s one in the archives? I just got the series 4(?) and am overwhelmed with the apps, fonts, materials? HALPP!
