Junior Prom {Picture Party}

I cannot tell you how much joy it brought me to continue the tradition of photos and dinner here before Whit’s junior prom.

This school year, he has really found the sweetest group of friends that feels so right for him. They are smart, polite, kind and incredibly driven. Most of the time I see them sweaty from pickleball, dripping wet from the pool or piled into the cabana after golf, so seeing them all dressed up and dapper for prom was such a treat.

The group was mostly made up of friends who paired off for the evening, though I do think there may be one actual couple in the mix. :-)

As for logistics, I set up a GroupMe, Whit added all of the kids, and then we had them add their parents. Since I didn’t know most of the families beforehand, it ended up being incredibly helpful and made coordinating everything so much easier. I think every student had at least one parent come by for photos, which made the whole evening feel especially fun and celebratory.

After days of rain and constant forecasts threatening more, we somehow ended up with the most perfect golden hour. Truly the prettiest light and the sweetest group of kids. And the photos… they turned out so cute.

Per usual, I set up a photo backdrop along the back wall of the fireplace facing the cabana. When we designed this space, I truly had no idea how often we’d end up using it for things like this. It wasn’t planned at all, just a happy design surprise.

You’ll see when I share the dinner photos that I leaned into a black-and-white theme and reused quite a few items left over from my 50th birthday party. It kept the budget very reasonable for the kids while still making the night feel beautiful and special. And honestly, the black-and-white palette worked so well with all of the formal attire.

Next, I’ll share the dinner setup along with all of the details, sources and little touches we pulled together for the evening.
