On My Bedside {Famous Last Words}

I’m a little behind on my On My Bedside posts, so before I gush about the book that has completely stolen my heart in 2026, let’s talk about Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister.

A woman answers the door one morning expecting her husband to head to work, only to learn he’s at the center of a hostage situation… and may not be the man she thought she married.

This book absolutely hooked me from the very first chapter. The opening is one of the strongest I’ve read in a long time, and the unique premise had me turning pages well past bedtime.

The second half shifts gears, becoming more investigative and emotional than edge-of-your-seat suspense. I actually appreciated the character development and relationships, but I did find myself wishing the pacing had stayed as intense as those opening chapters.

The ending wrapped everything up a little too neatly for my taste, requiring a bit more suspension of disbelief than I typically prefer.

Overall, though, it was a compelling, well-written thriller that kept me guessing and one I’d recommend.

If you’ve read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Did the ending work for you?

Any guesses what’s next? It’s the book I can’t stop thinking about and one that will almost certainly earn a spot on my all-time favorites list.
