Before meeting a few friends at Palmetto Bluff for a weekend of relaxation, bubbles, Lowcountry charm, mahjong and muumuus, I slipped down to Savannah a day early to spend a little one-on-one time with Marme and Daddy-O. These little visits have become some of my favorites. They’re never very long. Between Honey, Whit, the puppies and work waiting back at home, they are never long visits, but we’ve learned to make the most of every single minute.
We spent the day doing what we do best… shopping, with Daddy-O happily serving as chauffeur from one favorite stop to the next.
One of the highlights this trip was Found Objects, where I finally found something I’ve been hunting for for years: a beautiful Wallace silver ice bucket. It polished up like a dream (thank you Marme!) and now has a new home in my dining room. I also couldn’t resist the cutest little $5 fish dish that will be absolutely perfect for holding dice on one of my mahjong tablescapes.

We also wandered through South of Forsyth, which is always worth a stop, even if I left empty-handed this time.

No trip home would be complete without a visit to The Paris Market. We somehow showed remarkable restraint, leaving with nothing more than our favorite beverages and one chocolate chewie to share.

My final shopping stop was the Emily McCarthy shop, where I found a beautiful caftan that simply refused to stay on the hanger. The very last thing I need is another summer dress… but every now and then one comes along that just feels like you. This one came home with me.

For lunch, we headed to our longtime favorite, The Vault, then stopped by a local bakery to pick up pastries for breakfast the next morning. We rounded out the late afternoon with our favorite happy hour… Crispy Coke Zeros at home around the kitchen island… before heading to one of Marme and Daddy-O’s favorite island restaurants for supper.
Those twenty-four hours always seem to fly by, but they fill my cup every single time.
