One of my favorite things about playing mahjong is seeing everyone’s sets. At this point, the tiles, mats, racks and tablecloths are almost as much fun as the game itself. I love seeing how people put everything together, and our September games brought some especially fun combinations to the table.
I snapped pictures along the way, so rather than let them sit on my camera roll, I thought they deserved their own installment of Sips & Suits.
Peach & Pine
Of course, I have to start with my own. My Peach & Pine tiles from Middle & Main remain one of my favorite sets to pull out. I love the colors and the little Southern details, and they are just so very me. Half the fun is changing up the mat, racks and table linens around them depending on where and with whom I’m playing.
Bright & Happy
One of the prettiest tables I played on this month was a wonderfully curated mix of bright colors. Nothing was overly matchy-matchy, but everything worked together beautifully. This is exactly what I love about a collected mahjong setup. Sometimes the best tables aren’t a complete set purchased all at once, but a combination of things someone loves that somehow all work together.
Taylor Swift Mahjong
This one was just plain fun. The Taylor’s Tiles from Peace Love & Mahjong brought all the color and sparkle to the table, and I loved seeing all of the Taylor-inspired details as we played. Even without being my own set, it was such a fun one to photograph.
Take Me Out to the Mahjong Game
And finally, we played on the cutest baseball-themed table. The tiles were an Amazon find, but the entire setup had been curated around the baseball theme and was so much fun. It is yet another example of how creative you can get with mahjong once you start mixing tiles, mats and accessories.
September gave me four completely different tables and four very good reminders that there is absolutely no reason for mahjong to look the same every time you play. Traditional, colorful, sparkly, themed or completely collected over time, I love seeing everyone’s personality come through on the table.
