There is just something about a Thursday night game at Georgia Tech. They’ve been some of our favorites since we were in school in the ’90s, when campus would fill up in the middle of the week and everything just felt a little more fun. All these years later, not much has changed.
Last night Tech played Colorado, and the weather certainly tried to make things interesting. It absolutely poured before the game, followed by a rain delay, but thankfully we were tucked away at the SAE house and none of it put much of a damper on the evening.
And really, the fraternity house might have been one of my favorite parts of the night. It is so much fun at this stage of life to have our kids’ friends and our friends’ kids in the fraternity. At one point I found myself upstairs drinking frosé in the very same rooms where I used to hang out in the mid-’90s. If that doesn’t make you feel simultaneously 21 and approximately 100 years old, I don’t know what does. Such a crazy full-circle moment.
Eventually the rain cleared and we made our way over to Bobby Dodd for the game. The rain may have stopped, but apparently it left behind every ounce of humidity available in the state of Georgia. It was literally SO humid. I spent a good portion of the game downstairs in the club lounge with the ladies, which, if we’re being truthful, was not exactly a hardship.
We didn’t get the win, but I’ve never been one to let the final score determine whether or not I had a good time. A packed campus, Thursday night football, old friends, our kids and their friends, a little frosé and a whole lot of nostalgia made for a pretty great night on The Flats.
