Haunted Halloween Home Tour {Foyer}

Welcome, foolish mortals! It’s October, and our Haunted Halloween Home Tour is officially underway. We’re starting in the entry foyer, where a few friendly ghosts, a colony of bats and some rather unwelcome rodents are waiting to greet you.

Kindly step all the way in, please. There’s no turning back now!

My entry table gets its Halloween makeover with a lacy spiderweb tablecloth layered right over the everyday skirt. It’s such an easy change, but all those spiders and webs instantly set the mood. I also brought back my DIY black-and-white chandelier shades, which have been making an appearance every October for years. Some things are just too good to retire!

And those bats swooping across the mirror? They’re more than a decade old! I picked them up at Michael’s years ago, and they’ve certainly earned their keep in my Halloween collection.

The real stars of this little haunted entry are my pottery ghosts. I’ve collected them over the years from Molly Jenkins and Third Bowl Pottery, and I love how each one has its own personality. They’re especially charming after dark, when their battery-operated tea lights flicker and cast a warm glow across the table.

Of course, no haunted foyer would be complete without a few creepy creatures. My trusty staircase rats are back for another season, scurrying their way up and down the steps. They’re nothing more than cardstock silhouettes attached with painter’s tape, but they’ve been one of my favorite decorating tricks for years. They cost next to nothing, take minutes to put up and store perfectly flat until next Halloween.

I still have a stash of props from the boys’ Halloween costumes, and I love finding little places to sneak them into the decorations. The axe tucked into the umbrella stand is one of those details you might not notice right away. Which, of course, makes it even better!

Here’s one last look from the hallway. Our entry is fairly narrow, so this little table has always been a favorite spot to decorate. The ghost collection fits just right, and there’s enough Halloween mischief to make an impression without crowding the space.

I can’t decorate for Halloween without thinking about John, who has always loved this holiday as much as I do. I miss having him home to enjoy all the spooky little details, but I have a feeling he’d be pleased to see that his old costume props are still getting plenty of use!

There’s something comforting about bringing out these same decorations year after year. They may not be new, but they’re full of memories, and pulling them out is one of my favorite signs that fall has finally arrived.

Thanks for stopping by our haunted foyer. I hope you’ll come back for more of our Halloween home!
