Saturday Soccer + Stuff

This traditionally baseball-focused family is trying something new this season – soccer!! The baby wanted to play with one of his little besties, so Honey signed up to assistant coach in order to get them on the same team. Both are having a grand time, in spite of the fact that their team name is the “Dawgs” and their coach makes them do distasteful things like barking and dog-piling and things pretty much illegal for a Yellow Jacket fan. I’m certain he does this as much to goad us as he does for the kids. (This is the same guy that forever emblazoned the Georgia G on the concrete base of our porch fireplace.) Thanks to my sweet friend A for grabbing these pics of the little ones at practice and their first game.

Last night I ventured out of the house for the first time since Tuesday to attend a 40th birthday party for a fun friend. A favorite Mexican restaurant (Nuevo Laredo) catered the food and their amazing ‘gitas, and the Kona Ice truck came by for spiked snoballs. Oh, and the party favors were mini boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts. I did the same for my 35th and they are always a HUGE hit!

I went to see the new ortho Friday morning and really liked him. Honey liked him so much he tried to usurp my appointment with a convo that started “Do you do shoulders? I just can’t pitch like I used to.” Um…that’s because you’re pushing 40 doll. Now, back to me… Anyhoooooo, he had me do all sorts of things with my foot, pushed and pulled it in every direction and did four more x-rays before ordering a MRI. Best case scenario is that I just need to strengthen the muscles in my leg (which he proclaimed in a statement something like this “It’s great to be skinny but this leg looks like my grandma’s underarm.” He should have just stopped talking at skinny…) How this will help my tendon is something I forgot to ask. Worst case scenario is that I tore the tendon when I fell down the stairs back in April and it will have to be surgically repaired. I’ve read a LOT of horror stories about surgery on this particular tendon since then and will probably put it off as long as possible if that is what he says. The earliest appointment I could get for the MRI is next Thursday and that is at a facility an hour away. I have my follow up with the ortho on the 26th to hear the results. He advised me to do nothing until we know. Rest, ice, compression, elevation. Ibuprofen. Try to let it heal as much as possible before a week of walking at Disney. I will say that I’m encouraged that it already feels 50% better than it did last Tuesday (but still hurts!) The best case for Disney is that we pretty much have our long park days spread out so I will be able to rest between and handle it. The worst case is that I will have to rent a rascal. With their new DAS program, I would not qualify for any sort of front of the line or special treatment for only having a mobility problem. Which is fine. I’m more worried about long term issues than a week long vacation. Please send happy thoughts that I just need to get some muscles in my legs and haven’t torn anything. I’ll be doing this for the next 3 weeks until we know.

  1. Just promise that one of my favorite blogs will not become a crazy muscle-milk sponsored workout fanatic's dream as you rehab. I'm kidding. I know that would never happen. How do you have not enough muscle chasing two boys and running? Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

  2. Trela – Darn. That was where I was headed with the blog. LOL. I don't really know – the whole needing muscle thing to help my tendon issues doesn't entirely make sense to me. I should have asked more questions. Would love to hear from someone that knows though! xo

  3. Hi, I check in with your blog regularly, and wanted to mention that you can get the MRI results after they're read by the radiologist. You don't have to wait for an appt with the ortho. I know because I'm impatient. Sarah
