Thirty Years Later

I can’t lie and say that I haven’t led a pretty charmed life. Nor can I say that my parents didn’t get me pretty much everything I ever wanted as a child.  I say “pretty much” because there IS one thing that I asked for many, many times.  And, much to my delight, guess what was waiting for me under the Christmas tree after oh, about thirty years of wanting and asking…

Yippppppppppppppeeeeeeeeee!

The boys, particularly John, were also super excited about mommy’s gift and couldn’t wait to start baking.  So, yesterday we donned our aprons and hunted down the only 100 watt lightbulb in our entire house before we set to work.  Who knew the oven cooks with a lightbulb!?!? And it is worth mentioning that I just adore that the oven door is the perfect shade of turquoise to match my kitchen.

We took turns measuring and mixing.

And, after preheating our oven John carefully pushed our cake inside.

We ate lunch while we waited on the cake to bake and cool, and finally the cake was done!

After mixing up the frosting, John carefully spread it on our tiny cake.

While Cookie used his turn to sample the frosting.  Which was totally expected.

More than a few sprinkles later, our cake was done and we admired our handy work.

It was finally time to dig in.

And oh, how sweet it was!! When I first asked Santa for the Easy Bake Oven thirty years ago, I certainly never thought I’d be trying it out for the first time with two precious little boys of my own.  These two sweet faces made it totally and completely worth the wait!  Many thanks and much love to Marme and Daddy-O!

Now, if we can get Honey to Disney World his childhood bucket list will also be complete…
