Welcome Y’all

Before she broke her foot, Sister came over this way and worked her planting magic on my front pots.  (The very same day that the littles deconstructed the basement and the big oak fell out of nowhere, in fact.)

I’m infamous in my family for my black thumb and I had to pinky promise I’d keep these beauts watered and dead headed (see, I’m already talking the lingo.)

If I knew anything about plants (or if I’d saved the little tags Sister told me to hold onto), I’d tell you what these pretty things are.  Alas, I do not, so I won’t pretend.  Oh, and speaking of dead heading, she plucked that one in the middle there about 2.5 seconds after her last pre-cast arrival.

The height of pots has been bothering me for a good long while, so I gave them a lift by turning another flower pot (found at Target) upside down as a base.   Here’s the side by side before and after…

  1. You have the storm door as me. Love that look. Also love that you lifted the pots. The height looks great. Thanks for sharing. It's beautiful.

  2. looks like you have white geraniums(in the middle), creeping jenny (bright green in the front), white petunias (on the left), and vinca vine (variegated on the right). I love planting containers! Those petunias love water!

  3. I am just terrible with plants too! Every year I have such high hopes that this will be the year I take better care of mine but that has yet to happen! Your flowers look great, especially with the new height.

  4. The white flowers in the back (that she dead headed) are geraniums. The white in front are petunias, tey will spill over the edge of the pots. I LOVE how you raised the urns!!! XO, Pinky

  5. Fantastic door floral arrangement…The basket is so very unique…just love it…The white flowers are so classic in appearance…really sets the tone for your home beginning at the front door…Beautiful…

  6. I love the green and white color scheme; it really looks good against the black. And how clever to elevate your urns using up-ended flower pots. I came across your lovely blog two weeks ago, and I was so impressed, I sat at my computer for hours, until I had read every single post!

  7. What a nice family you have. I love the symmetry and the black urns. Love everything. I'm over from the DIY Project Parade.

  8. Beautiful porch. Amazing the difference it makes with your urns on risers. It looks so much more pulled together. Wonderful job!

  9. Oh your porch is gorgeous! The risers make such a difference- they make the urns stand out so much more. Great idea! If you have some time I'd love it if you'd stop by my blog to check out the giveaway I'm having for a Ramsign Home Sign!

  10. Enjoyed stopping by this evening…Your front porch is so inviting. I like how you raised the pots by stacking them on top of the other ones. Hope you can find some time to stop over for a visit…

  11. I love that black, white gray color scheme, so crisp and fresh….and the white flowers just say, Welcome! I really like the door decorations too, so original. Very nicely done.

  12. You def. got this righT!!!! I love it! Very inviting…my blog is called "Beyond The Front Door" and this is def. a perfect front door look and porch. Love the black urns.

  13. Beautiful and so welcoming! The basket of tulips is gorgeous and I don't know much about flowers/etc. either but as soon as our inside is done, I'll be learning! I love your clever heightening solution too!

  14. Great color scheme and I like the way you were so creative using the square-ish flower pots as bases for your urns. I really like the door basket, too.

  15. Looks great! I love how you raised the level with the second square pots — genius!

Your curb appeal is a perfect ten!

  16. Chocolate – Sister made this arrangement a few years ago. She purchased the basket at a wholesale place called Star back then that has since gone out of business, I believe. It was basically a wholesale supplier of silk and dried flowers, ribbons and containers and was cheap as all get out. Sad to see it go! She also purchased the flowers there that are in the basket. Basically, once you get your container, fill it with some florist foam and then stick in your stems. I'm far from an expert on this but if you want more info I can put you in touch with her :-) Thanks for reading!!

  17. Cookie – Thank you so much!! It was a custom front door that we had the contractor that did the initial work on the house make. I had a storm door like it on my last house and loved it so much that I wanted it as the actual front door. Unfortunately I have not been able to get in contact with him to find out who he had make it.
