Derby Day

It’s been raining cats and dogs here in Georgia for the last two days.  And, after being cooped up inside all day long, we couldn’t wait to don our derby finery and head to the S house for a fabulous Run for the Roses soiree.

Some of the gals…the (little) boys were in the hot tub and swimming pool.  In the sub-60 degree rainy weather.  That gorgey painting is another by Mary Pratt.

Ash had an enviable and so-Southern derby spread.  Ham biscuits, pimento cheese, cucumber sammies, shrimp, bourbon soaked brownies topped with bourbon soaked raspberries (o.m.g.), brownie cake pops for the littles and the requisite mint juleps!

Fingers crossed she makes this an annual tradition – it was more Derby fun than we’ve had in a good long while!

I could hardly let the topic of the derby go without raving about another fantastic artist.  Tim and his wife Nicole live in San Fran but hail from Texas and Tennessee respectively.  They originally started these illustrations to fancy up their horse betting, hat wearing, fan yelling annual Derby Party, but now share them with other horse lovers and Southerners through a site called Society 6 and on Pinterest.  How cute are these??!!!

And they are very affordable to boot!

With that, I’m off to do a little rain dance.  We’ve got outdoor plans that I’d hate to see spoiled!

  1. Lovely roses as centerpiece are definitely gorgeous! It’s really fun and memorable spending quality time with family and friends, especially with kids around. The hats are likewise perfect for the occasion. Mind if I take one of those bourbon soaked brownies topped with bourbon soaked raspberries? ☺ Anyway, enjoy the rest of the weekend and take care!
