I positively love every.single.thing. about the Nutcracker ballet. My very favorite rendition…and I’ve seen A LOT as a self professed Nutcracker lover… is the American Ballet Theater’s 1977 production with Gelsey Kirkland and Mikhail Baryshnikov.
For a more modern two minute update, y’all absolutely HAVE to see this ad!! The Bailey’s drinking Nutcracker lover in me thinks it’s just perfection! I’d love to see the whole ballet done in this manner!!
And just for kicks, I’ll leave you with this image. Yours truly as Clara in Ballet South’s 1993 Nutcracker. One of my proudest personal achievements of all time and a dream come true to a sixteen year old ballerina. It was the real deal… countless rehearsals, the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, sets, costumes, press pictures, reviews, bleeding toes and all.

I love it too! My niece has been in a production in Roswell since she was 3. Sadly, she gave up ballet this year due to a nagging injury. Hopefully, she can return to it in the near future. Such a sweet picture of you. My girls were competitive figure skaters, and I think the only thing that took more time was ballet!
There is something magical about it, for certain. I can imagine how thrilled you must have been to have had such an important part. Your portraits are lovely.
As much as I LOVE your blog, it makes me LOVE IT EVEN MORE that you are a ballerina and a fellow ballet buff. I started taking dance when I was 3 and danced all through college. I get goose bumps when the commercial for the Houston Ballet's Nutcracker comes on TV this time of year. Amazing! Also amazing are your portraits. Your "turn out" is exquisite.
I absolutely LOVED playing Clara as a teenager too! I had no idea you were a dancer. Such beautiful pictures!
Wow….what a wonderful life you've had….and many more special moments yet to come! Pretty ballerina is officially "'Mommy's Princess picture #2"
So very pretty! I can't imagine how wonderful that must have been!
What a special time in your life that you will never forget! Your pictures are beautiful and your parents must have been so proud! I love the Nutcracker too!
