The Spot

As I’m sure y’all have gathered, I don’t do a whole lot of lounging around the house.  It’s just not in my nature. Don’t get me wrong… I WISH I could just be still and I envy those that can (Honey and Sister top off that list).  So, you can understand why it took me five or so years to finally find my spot in our home.

A couple of things transpired that led to me discovering “the spot”.  First, recall that I brought down a stool from the attic and quickly recovered it to match the den after I got all my Christmas up and thought how lovely it would be to have a little stool to perch on in front of the fire.

The second event was my inability to leave any garden stool behind at Home Goods.  I came across a perfect aqua one down in Savannah with Mother (the biggest shopping enabler EVER) and carried it home, not really knowing what in the world I’d do with it yet knowing full well I’d never return it.  (Y’all unanimously agreed on Instagram.)  It found a home next to the chair, because all functional chairs need a spot to sit a drink or a book, right?!?!

Well, when the Christmas came down, I hated to lose the bench to the attic and moved it in front of the aforementioned chair.  It was perfect to eat up some of that dead floor space and has already functioned as extra seating when we had dinner guests.

And so, what was once a lonely chair that nobody ever used has now be claimed as my spot.  The Spot.  I have already enjoyed it so much over morning coffee, and I read a whole (albeit short) book in the spot last weekend.  I adore peeking out the window into the street and sidewalk (always full of bikers, joggers and dog walkers).  I love the afternoon sun streaming in.  I relish the warm heat of the fire.  And I can see straight across the house (key when littles like mine are running wild on their third week of Christmas vacation).

More changes are afoot in this room.  Stay tuned for Den v 2015! In the meantime, I’m going to work hard at keeping the spot warm and not running myself too ragged this early in the year.

  1. I have a spot in our family room as well – the most perfectly situated in the house. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the room! Happy Wednesday! xo

  2. I have a spot in my bedroom where I sit with my feet up and read or do some Bible Study. Looking forward to seeing your changes in the den although I must say it is lovely as it is.

  3. OK, I love your "spot", it looks very pretty and cozy. The the first thing that came to my mind when I read your opening paragraph was a scene on "The Big Bang Theory" where Sheldon is trying to find his perfect chair in Penny's apartment while she is attempting to talk to him about her first date with Leonard. Haha!!!!

  4. Looks like a nice, cozy spot! Enjoy it while you can! I have to ask – what's with the 3 week Christmas break?!! How nice to have so much time off – my kids went back to school a week ago!

  5. If you ever need lessons in relaxation, call me! :) Seriously though, when my kids were young it really was a rarity to just sit or take much time at all for me. BIG mistake! So, don't do what I did, do what I say. LOL

Everything looks warm and cozy in The Spot! Perfect area to kick back ~
