The {Nearly} Ten Celebration

I can hardly believe I’m typing these words, but double digits are almost here for one young man in this house!!  After much begging and discussion, we finally agreed to hosting our very first sleepover party.  I purchased a stack of these darling invites years ago when Paper Affair was closing its doors and dug them out of the closet to use for BOTH of the littles’ parties.  I’m still a fan of a mailed invitation.  What can I say?!

Four of the five little boys invited were able to attend and it was SO MUCH FUN!  These little friends were nice, polite, respectful and just great kids to be around.  My ten-ager planned the entire event, right down to every scrap of food.  Here’s how it all went down…

First things first, we loaded up and headed to an indoor trampoline park.  Honey and I figured two hours of intense physical activity would serve well to wear them out a little :-)

We picked up pizzas on the way home and dropped them in the basement for their dining pleasure while playing Madden, foosball and pool.

After a friendly game of hoops outside to run off their last little bit of energy, we called them back in for John’s birthday treat of choice… chocolate lava cakes a la mode.  A boy after his mom’s heart for sure.  I totally forgot the flour but they were still delish :-)

Around 10 we put on a movie and they dozed off one by one over the course of just 30 minutes or so.  When I got up to tip toe out this morning for Krispy Kremes at 7AM, they were ALL already awake!

It was such a fun night and I thoroughly enjoyed getting a little peek into the world of ten year old boys.  There was a lot of laughing, loads of burping when they thought we weren’t paying attention, and a whole lot of camaraderie and friendship.  One of the reasons we picked this particular home was the neighborhood, school, community and sense of permanence.  We wanted our boys to make friends in elementary school that they would have for the rest of their lives.  Honey and I both grew up like that, and it’s a pretty incredible thing to still text and chat daily with friends that have known you since you were five.  I look forward to many, many more years of watching these kids I knew as toddlers continue to grow into amazing young men.

Happy {nearly} 10th, John!
xoxo

  1. Perfect party for a ten-ager! Boys are such a hoot – and 10 is SO so fun!!

    Happy (almost) Birthday, John!!

  2. what a gift you are giving to your boys! we moved 7 times by my 10th birthday and a few more after that. stability and lifelong friends make for a happy childhood! happy birthday John!

  3. I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m still close to 19 other girls I graduated with in 1983. We call ourselves the JUGS – Just Us Girls – and even though we’re all 50/51 years old now, we still get together twice a year for JUGs weekends. Some of us have known each other since we took baby ballet together. Your choice in homes will be one of the greatest gifts you’ll give your boys; surpassing all trips, gifts and other material things because there’s nothing in the world like “Forever Friends”.
