On My Bedside {The Good Girl}

Sweet Bestie S delivered The Good Girl by Mary Kubica straight to my bedside when I was down with my appendectomy (so many months ago that I forgot I had it).  I tried reading it then but couldn’t string together two cohesive thoughts at the time, much less make sense of a book!

This was a quick and engaging read along the lines of other popular dysfunctional / psychological type thrillers like Gone Girl and Girl on the Train.  (Why are all of these books about GIRLS?)  I always relish a plot twist that I didn’t see coming, and this book delivered on that!

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life.

When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia’s mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family’s world to shatter.

Right now I’m entrenched in re-reading the Harry Potter series with John and I still want to read Gone with the Wind again per my 40×41 list.  BUT…  I’d still love to know what you’re reading.  I get all of my best material straight from y’all!
xoxo

  1. Loved Me Before You by Jojo Moyes! So good! She just came out with the sequel After You. I recently read At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen and Orphan Train and loved both of those as well. I’m currently reading Natchez Burning and it’s so good as well! Not my typical read but such a page turner! My number one pick will always be the Outlander Series. I’m hopelessly obsessed. :)

  2. I loved The Good Girl, but not the follow up, Pretty Baby. Right now I’m reading Diane Chamberlain’s, Pretending to Dance. She’s one of my favorite authors.

  3. I’ve just finished voyager – again – and I think I’m going with Everything, Everything next. I’ll have to add this one to my list!

  4. I started reading this one but then my library loan expired and another book I wanted to read became available… so I never finished it. It was taking me a while to get into it. This is making me think I need to go back and keep reading!!!

  5. I’m in the middle of reading Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler. It’s a sweet, slow read about 4 best friends who grow up in a little town and what happens when they become adults. Really good so far and I love the way the author strings things together.

    I just ordered Fates & Furies as well as Finding Jake. The first one has been on almost every “Best of” list from last year and they are comparing Finding Jake to Defending Jacob, one of my all time favorites. I love your book posts and will be making your One Pot Taco Pasta for dinner tonight. :) (I was also that crazy gal that tagged you on the Disney post last night on Insta!)

  6. The Good Girl sounds a bit like Chevy Steven’s Still Missing. Still Missing was just riveting. I would put it down thinking I could take no more then I had to know what happened.:) My first book of the New Year is The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. Set in Masada in 72-73 AD, it was a very absorbing book. And Harry Potter..it never gets old does it? GWTW is another favorite of mine that could use a re read as well. Thanks for posting re books, I am always on the hunt for a good one.

  7. I read The Hatchet by Gary Paulsen with my nephew who is in the 5th grade, we both loved it. I think John may like it as well. The main character is Brian who find himself in a plane crash, alone and lost in the Canadian wilderness with only a hatchet.

  8. This looks great! Adding it to my list. I just finished The Last Anniversary. I didn’t like it as much as The Husband’s Secret, but it was a good, quick read.

  9. I recently read “While We Were Watching Downton Abbey” by Wendy Wax which was an enjoyable, light story you might like!

  10. Just reread Peachtree Road by Anne Rivers Siddon. Last night I started Daddy, Stop Talking by Adam Carolla, and Nanchez Burning by Greg IIes.

  11. Hi Amanda,
    This isn’t related to this post but thought you might like to know, if you didn’t already, that your basement is featured on the HGTV Canada website. I was reading a tweet about bloggers and basement renos.
