I combined our usual last day of school snack with our “we’re going to Disney” celebratory dinner this year! Since our Disney trip would have us there over Memorial Day, I thought it would be fun and different to do a Mickey Mouse Memorial Day Celebration!!
I served breakfast for dinner in the form of a waffle bar, which is easy and a crowd favorite, on the porch. While the boys were all at lacrosse I set things up to surprise them on their return.
I pulled most of the red, white and blue things out of my July 4th stash and added a few new things here and there. Here are the sources for the things that are current:
- The giant Mickey is a door hanger that I’ve had for a couple of years
- Pom pom and star garland, glasses and bunting is current in Target Dollar Spot.
- Mickey paddles are current from Michael’s ($2 each).
- Urns were from Pottery Barn in the fall but I recently saw them in my store.
- Cake plate was from Pier 1 years ago, but I bought another one in the last year.
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort candle from Spireside Candles.
I used this Mickey Waffle Maker and the Krusteaz Belgain Waffle mix for the waffles. I’ve had the waffle maker for a few years and it is easy, cleans up well and has held up great. It honestly makes more of a pancake than a waffle, but is yummy nonetheless.
For toppings I put out blueberries and strawberries (to go with our theme), Mickey Sprinkles, syrup we carried home from Vermont and whipped cream.
I love my vintage Starland Dairies milk jug from Savannah. It fit in perfectly with our patriotic dinner!
The boys adored our dinner and loved loading up their Mickey waffles with all of the toppings. I bought the Mickey plates back in Downtown Disney eons ago. I so wish I’d bought four rather than two because I haven’t seen any like them since then.
The hydrangeas were cut from my mother in law’s yard and held up wonderfully!!!! I love them so much and have so enjoyed having them around. I placed a Mickey mask paddle in each one and added a few flags. I love seeing him peek out of the tops of them.
Happy Memorial Day to you and yours and a HUGE THANK YOU to all that have served and sacrificed for our country.
God Bless the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks fun. And delicious! Enjoy your trip to Disney.
Thank you. We had a great time!
Love your pre-Memorial Day dinner décor! Hope you are enjoying your trip to Disney over Memorial Day. I wonder if Disney does something to honor all those who have given their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day?
When I was growing up we usually had a cookout or trip to the beach over the holiday but my parents never let us forget what Memorial Day was all about. They once even took us to Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day so we could understand the ultimate sacrifice that so many paid to defend our liberty.
Hi Teresa, Magic Kingdom does wonderful flag ceremony each day honoring those who have served our country. It’s really special!
So cute! I love celebrations of all kinds so I really enjoy your posts you do on your family’s. I thought of you and your love of Disney when I saw items at my local Dollar General store. They have small Mickey and Minnie ceramic planters that would make cute bowls for parties. :)
Great idea! Thanks for the tip.
