Kitchen Table Switcheroo

You know when a bright idea just smacks you in the face and you can’t even fathom how you never thought of it until that moment?  Well, that happened to me a few weeks ago.  I’ve loved all the pieces of my kitchen table set since we placed it here eight years ago, but I’ve never loved how it fit the space.

So, with the help of my brawny eight year old :-), I rotated it 90 degrees in the same space.  And I love it!  We’ve been living with it for a couple of weeks to make sure, and now all that is left to do is to rotate the rug.  I didn’t want to go to that trouble if it didn’t pan out.

I love that the bench seat now faces the rest of the room and into the den.  It is the most coveted seat at the table and now it makes you feel so much more included in the overall hustle and bustle of the family.

I also love that it is much easier to navigate between the table and the island, as well as to access the french door behind the table.

Once upon a time I thought about replacing the table with small round or small square table, but I love being able to seat six in here more than I love the thought of a smaller table that might fit the space even better.  The boys frequently have friends over and it is the perfect size for when we have my parents in town.  Besides, the table is an antique that bestie C’s mom picked found for me right out of college!  The chairs are also antique and were part of Honey’s grandma’s bridge table set.

I really need to do a full update on my kitchen because the last one was in 2012!  Those pictures are so blurry after I moved my blog from blogger to wordpress and I’ve cleaned up my counter decor a lot since then.  I would try to do it this summer but the chances of having five minutes without my two ravenous boys in the kitchen seems slim to none :-) I’ll move that to the docket for the fall.
