Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece

I almost never do this, but I’m prepared to share my Thanksgiving table centerpiece early!! It’s not that I don’t want to… but we really live here and I can’t have my Halloween up in August, Thanksgiving in September and Christmas up in October to get blog views. Ya know?!

We are hosting Honey’s family this year, which is not our usual plan, but what is usual in 2020?! Since we are headed out of town between now and then, I am working ahead so that everything is ready when we return. In a perfect world, it will be warm and sunny and the sky will be full of white fluffy clouds. I will set up the dining tables out back and the food on the screened porch. If that doesn’t pan out then…. we will rethink on the fly! I just threw it on the porch table today to see how it would all come together.

I am using a bunch of items I already have but many are still available. These are staples of entertaining that can be repurposed for all sorts of occasions.

I started with this buffalo check table cloth. I have these in a few colors and love them for being relatively inexpensive, cute and easy to wash.

Next, I added faux eucalyptus garland down the center. Each pack comes with 2 strands, and I used both of them here based on the size of the table. I use this often as it goes with everything and you don’t have to also purchase or make a bunch of live floral centerpieces.

I like to start big and work my way down to the smallest layer. Hence, the taper candles went on first. I purchased these this summer and love them. They come in a pack of 3 at Target in varying heights. Like the votives, I bought new tapers (smokeless, dripless) to go in them for Thanksgiving.

I love mercury glass votives and have used them for the last 15 years. Invest in a set and you will get your money’s worth! I have these holders and recently purchased these candles to refresh the ones that had burned down.

These votives are unscented, but I do love a scented candle. One of my all time favorite scents is Japanese Quince from Seda France. These are too spendy for me to fill in a bunch of votives and a little goes a long way. I like to use just one scented candle in a group of unscented candles to still make things smell heavenly at a fraction of the price.

Next, I layered white ceramic pumpkins that I found in the dollar spot at Target last year (or the year before).

And, finally, no gathering in 2020 would be complete without hand sanitizer at all ends of the table.

I debated using melamine but have pretty much decided that everyone is old enough to go with china and lord knows I’ve not gotten much use out of it this year. I will use my white dinner plates and some chocolate acorn rimmed salad plates that I’ve had for years.

I hope this is as helpful for you as it was fun for me!

  1. Beautiful Thanksgiving table-scape! One the nicest things about being in the South at Thanksgiving is that its usually still warm enough to eat outdoors and I suspect many Thanksgiving meals will be held on screen-in porches, patios and outdoor rooms with COVID still very much with us. I saw where outdoor heaters were a big hit this year especially with restaurants who will be serving on patios.

I cant wait until your Christmas home tour when you show the new reveal. You have given us a little tease as I can see a outdoor addition and chaise lounges in the background. If I had to guess I would say water is involved!

  2. Hi, Since you decorate for Christmas before thanksgiving how will it be this year, fall decor on patio and Xmas decor inside ?

    1. I always wait to do my exterior until after Thanksgiving! So, Christmas inside and no real decor outside. We will do the exterior on Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. xo

  3. Amanda the pool looks absolutely gorgeous I am dying for a post about it can’t wait to hear about the project and how you decided on all of it!!! Good for you!!😊
