Be Honored

As fortunate as my children are, I still feel frustration, anger and helplessness that I can’t give them back the life they were living in March of 2020. And I mean the simplest of things… being able to go to a movie with friends, to hop out of the car without a mask, to have a locker to store your 50 lbs of books, to see your grandparents, to have friends pop in unannounced, to go to school and sports without fear of getting sick, to spontaneously head out for pizza after a game with countless other families, to celebrate your birthday, to eat lunch in the cafeteria, etc. I don’t ever think someone should apologize for their feelings so I’ll just say this… yes, in spite of all their blessings, I feel sorry for them.

Which brings me to this post I read this week. It spoke to me so loudly and clearly that I felt like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders.

Don’t feel sorry for or fear for your kids because the world they are growing up in is not what it used to be. God created them and called them for the exact moment in time that they’re in. Raise them up to know the power they walk in as children of God. Train them up in the authority of His Word. Teach them to walk in faith knowing God is in control. Empower them to know they can change the world. Don’t teach them to be fearful and disheartened by the state of the world, but hopeful that they can do something about it.

Every person in all of history has been placed in the time that they were in because of God’s sovereign plan. He knew Daniel could handle the lion’s den. He knewDavid could handle Goliath. He knew Ester could handle Haman. He knew Peter could handle persecution. He knows that your child can handle whatever challenge they face in their life. He created them specifically for it!

Don’t be scared for your children, but be honored that God chose you to parent the generation that is facing the biggest challenges and opportunities of our lifetime.

Paraphrased from anonymous post

Our kids were born for these uncertain times and we were chosen to parent them through it. Wow!

I hope maybe one of you out there needed to read this too. Let your life change the world.

  1. Funny you should post this as I had seen it on IG and sent myself a copy to print out so I can reread often. So much comfort to me as a mother in reading this, thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks so much for sharing this post – I couldn’t agree more. It’s such an impactful reminder…and one worth revisiting often.

  3. I have a sophomore son in college and a junior daughter in high school. My daughter and I were talking about everything that had happened when they opened her school back to in-person and then closed it back down 3 or 4 weeks later. She said to me. “I’d rather be living through it then living 20 years from now and having to write an AP US History DBQ on 2020”
They are both rolling with it most of the time better than the elders.
