Being Catholic {Whit’s Confirmation Celebration}

After Whit’s confirmation mass, everyone went home for a bit to change into more comfy clothes then reconvened at our home for a celebratory luncheon! We even picked up a few more as CeeCee, Honey’s cousin, her husband and new baby Kazi were also able to join us.

As usual, I am so grateful for Mother, Sister and Daddy-O’s help in putting this together! We moved the porch furniture to the courtyard and set up banquet style seating for our family of sixteen. It was a little too tight to do one long table, so we made a “T” shape and seated Whit, Sister (godmother and sponsor) and myself there at the head table.

The jumping off point for the entire celebration was the cake! Many months ago I purchased a sampler box from an Atlanta baker – she had four slices of cake left over from a wedding tasting. When I saw it on her Instagram, I knew Whit would positively LOVE that – tasting and trying different cake combinations. He didn’t forget that and when it came time for his lunch, the menu was 100% driven by him. So, I’ll start there… with the beautiful and absolutely scrumptious cake!

The two-tiered cake was almond with vanilla custard filling and buttercream icing. I purchased the gold cross as the perfect finishing touch. I used a template from etsy to customize the banner and paper goods.

The cake fed more guests than we had, so take out containers made for a fun party favor. The silver serving pieces cut our wedding cake many moons ago.

I framed pictures of Whit from his baptism and first communion. I have always designed, printed and laminated prayer cards for their sacraments, but also found some beautiful St. Francis prayer cards online. (St. Francis is his patron saint and Francis is his middle name.)

As for the rest of the meal, that was picked by Whit too! I thought he would have mulled over an elaborate menu but he didn’t even need to consider – the Willy’s Taco Bar was his wish. Easy peasy! Oh, and Jarritos Sodas were also a special request.

I purchased white banquet table cloths many years ago and they have gotten so much mileage. If you love to entertain, they are worth having! I love to add a paper runner that coordinates with the event and adds color to the table.

We also own three 6′ folding tables which we use almost constantly. Whether its a party set up, dinner seating, tailgate, Halloween night, or just organizing for college move in, they are SO handy. To seat everyone, I used every available chair in the house.

You will have seen all of the basics on this table many times by now. I used our Butler’s Pantry china (from our wedding), bee glasses and bee flatware. I did a mix of napkins with just a single W and those I had made for him for a forever gift with his custom monogram a few years back. (not pictured)

At each place setting I did a menu card and place card. Of course, the menu cards were entirely unnecessary given the menu, but I love them.

The water bottles are from Ikea and I use my silhouette to customize them for different events. Non-permanent vinyl is easiest for this. Here, I used Whit’s custom monogram (a “forever gift” a few years ago).

Sister helped me with the flowers. I purchased the round vases for John’s grad party and love the way they look on tables. They are low enough to see over, go with any decor and hold a TON of stems. I’ve used the gold candlesticks and tapers many, many times for all sorts of events and holidays.

I set up drinks on the buffet table. I already mentioned Whit’s special request for Jarritos Sodas. Mother and Daddy-O helped me hunt down Mexican Cokes in keeping with the theme. The napkins were originally from Whit’s first birthday!

It was a beautiful celebration of precious Whit!
