Since we are *still* having “Freezer Finds” dinners, I thought I’d share our recent double date at Bar Blanc in lieu of Sunday Supper!
(Re: Freezer Finds…. Since we took John to Auburn, we’ve been working on cleaning out the freezers, fridge and pantry. This is something that would have gone over like a lead balloon with John at home. LOL. The boy likes his nice home cooked meals. But, Whit loves to be creative in the kitchen so we’ve had fun piecing together meals the last few weeks using primarily ingredients we already had on hand! Of course, Honey and I were gone for 5 nights on a cruise and we’ve eaten out here and there.)
Bar Blanc is a cocktail lounge located above Little Sparrow serving a prix fixe menu of steak and pommes frites. They do not take reservations so we headed down early a few Fridays ago. After putting our name on the list for an inside table (it’s been hot as all get out here), we popped downstairs to the lounge at Little Sparrow.
Just as we were finishing up our first round it was time to be seated in a sumptuous corner booth.
Nestled amidst the cadence of passing trains, a small haven, a clandestine sanctuary for the connoisseurs of life. The air inside is a rich bouquet of sizzling steaks and frites and citrus and the fresh fragrance of clinking cocktails. My friend regaled me with tales over a bottle of inky red wine, a quiet happiness settling over us. Talk crackled, glasses kissed, spirits mingled, time held its breath. Under the starry sky, we ate well, drank deep, and dreamt of spring in Paris.
The cocktail menu is vague by design, and we all enjoyed choosing and sipping on creations new to us. I did the daiquiri and it was delightful.
The prix fixe menu is $50 per person and the only decision to make is how you’d like your steak cooked! As soon as that decision was made, a scrumptious salad and crusty bread arrived to start things off.
We all agreed the steaks were absolute perfection and some of the best we’d ever had. We did their standard steak, as well as the upgraded offering of the night, and all agreed the standard steak served with bernaise and garlic aioli was the best. The fries were decadent and unlimited.
I cannot recommend this fun dinner more! We absolutely loved it. I wish I could say we would be back soon, but there’s nothing we love more than exploring new restaurants with blonde AW :-) We rarely have repeat.
If you’re interested in Little Sparrow downstairs, it is also divine. Whit chose it for his 15th birthday dinner and we still rave about it!
