We had our regularly scheduled monthly mahj last week, but in the whirlwind of chatter and clacking tiles, I didn’t manage to snap a single photo! Sometimes, that’s how you know it was a good one.
In addition to our big club meet-up, I found myself hosting an impromptu little morning game over the long holiday weekend, and it turned out to be one of my favorite gatherings yet! Just four of us this time, and we took the fun poolside with my latest obsession: a floating mahjong board. I had stalked this thing online for months, waiting (not so patiently) for it to come back in stock, and finally snagged it late last month.

We claimed a shady corner of the hot tub (without the heat)- thanks to Honey, who heroically relocated an umbrella for us – and set up our game right in the water. The ladies arrived with fresh fruit and bubbly mimosas in hand, while I sliced up my lemon cake (not a crumb left behind, I might add).

There’s something about a last-minute gathering that feels extra sweet… no fussing over menus or cleaning the house, just good friends and sunshine.

Your impromptu gathering sounds wonderful. May I ask if you used the syrup and glaze on the lemon bread? Mixed reviews on using both of them. Thanks for sharing!!!
I used both and it was very lemon-y and delicious!
