America 250 {Patriotic Kitchen}

Today I’m sharing the kitchen, which is always one of my favorite rooms to decorate for the seasons.

Since my Blue Willow china is displayed year-round, patriotic decorating comes together pretty naturally. A few pops of red, a handful of American flags and some fresh flowers are often all it takes to make the space feel festive.

A cheerful arrangement of red, white and blue flowers takes center stage, while a beloved table runner I’ve owned for decades adds another layer of color. I always smile when I pull it out each summer. Some decorations come and go, but a few favorites seem to earn a permanent place in the rotation.

My USA letter dishes are back out as well. They’ll eventually be filled with candy as we get closer to the Fourth of July, but for now they’re sitting empty. Experience has taught me that keeping candy within reach of two curious dogs is asking for trouble.

Over on the beverage bar, I added a few patriotic details that are both decorative and practical. Festive drink stirrers, paper straws and cocktail napkins make the area feel ready for summer entertaining at a moment’s notice. Our shaved ice set up has also earned a permanent spot for the season. It has become such a favorite with family and guests that it hardly seems worth putting away.

The patriotic napkin holder and mini flag are from Nora Fleming, while the plate and interchangeable attachment are from Happy Everything!  These are the kinds of pieces I reach for again and again because they make seasonal decorating so simple. See more about my LED lights here and find the wood tray here.

Festive dish towels are such an easy and functional way to spruce up the kitchen for any holiday or celebration.

And, a bakery treat with themed picks.

On a nearby counter, I swapped in a Happy Everything! flag attachment and one of my favorite family photographs. The picture was taken when the boys were little, back in the days of john johns and smocking. I’m forever grateful I embraced those sweet Southern traditions while I could because those years passed far too quickly.

I rounded out the décor with patriotic ribbons tied just about anywhere I could think of.

This kitchen is where our family gathers every day, and I love that it can feel festive and celebratory without requiring elaborate decorations. A few thoughtful touches are often enough.

Next up, I’ll be sharing the dining room!
