Thirty-eight

I’ve celebrated here and there all week, but today was the big day.  Thirty-eight!  When I told a mom at the ball field that I was truly excited about thirty-eight, I’m certain she didn’t believe me. I mean, nobody is guaranteed another year and I, for one, think every single one that comes your way is cause for celebration!!!   Earlier in the week, Honey took me to lunch and to the Lilly store, for the Resort Hoppin’ tour, to choose a few things for my gift.  photo 1 (2)  And last night we went out on a date night dinner to my favorite local eatery.  We do these the night before these days since the littles love to celebrate birthdays so much.  I couldn’t bear to leave them at home on the actual day!   photo 3  This morning we were up bright and early for a FULL day at the ball field.  The boys were beside themselves with excitement for me to open my gifts.  I love everything that they chose, but am particularly happy to finally have one of Mother’s oyster shell necklaces :-)  When John saw them back in January he secretly asked Mother if he could buy one to give to me for my birthday.  I’ve been waiting ever since for this day to come!!   March 2014 002 As if all of that wasn’t enough, Honey surprised me with the most stunning marsh painting from Angie Reuter.  I talked to her about doing one for me a year ago but was completely shocked to get it this morning.  It is more beautiful than I ever dreamed and it is so, so special to have another one of one of my best friend’s pieces in my home.   March 2014 003 As for the rest of the day, we did our traditional special occasion breakfast at Krispy Kreme… photo 4 …and then headed to the ball field for six hours.  At least it was a gorgeous day to be outside!!  Both boys played great games, and by the end of the day we had nearly the whole family in tow – JuJu, Mother, Daddy-O, Sister, her Mister, Bird and CeeCee!! March 2014 007 copy2 March 2014 020 We wrapped up the birthday with… wait for it… another MEAL.  (Has anyone else noticed how birthdays evolve over the years from the party and presents to a bunch of friends hanging out to what and how many cocktails can be consumed to how many good eats can be crammed into a day?!?)  We did the family favorite, totally kid friendly and positively delish Japanese hibachi tonight.  And, with that, it is 7:20 and I’m in my pjs.  Life is good.  Really good. xoxo
