Ball reached out to me again this year to share a favorite way to use jars in celebration of the 2015 Can-It-Forward Day. If you read the logo closely, you’ll realize I’m a little tardy to the party. Chalk that up to the end of summer, a complete blog overhaul, a broken garage door, and a leak that I just know in my bones is coming from the navy-est master bathroom you’ve ever laid eyes on (although the plumber disagrees). But I digress…
Now, I shared my most favorite way to use a Ball jar for the 2014 Can-It-Forward Day in the form of my BBQ Sundae. And when I started to think about how I use my varied shapes and sizes of Ball jars on a daily (seriously) basis, I just kept coming back to food. We do a lot of eating, drinking and giving of food in jars!
This week in particular, I made a huge batch of Chex Mix and divided it up in pint jars for the littles to snack on. I love having grab-and-go options at arms reach and love using sustainable containers over zip lock bags.
These particular jars are the last in the 3 year series of Heritage Collection jars celebrating the 100th anniversary of first true “Perfect Mason” jar. The purple color is period-inspired. I’m using the matching design series lids as well.
Now, as far as the Honey Sriracha Chex Mix, I was excited to try a new spin on an old fave. This comes together pretty quickly and feeds a crowd. It was a little spicy, but we like sriracha so it got eaten (much like everything else these days).
Honey Sriracha Chex Mix
serves 20
3 cups Corn Chex
3 cups Rice Chex
1 cup roasted salted peanuts
1 cup waffle pretzels
2 T. butter
3 T. Sriracha sauce
2 T. honey
3 cups popped popcorn
1. In a large microwaveable bowl, mix cereals, peanuts and pretzels; set aside. In a small microwaveable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on high about 20 seconds or until melted. Stir in Sriracha sauce and honey. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until evenly coated.
2. Microwave uncovered on high 5 minutes, stirring after 2 and 4 minutes. Spread on waxed paper to cool, about 15 minutes. Place back in serving bowl and stir in popcorn. Store in airtight container.
Happy snacking, y’all!
xoxo
