Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion {40×41}

One of the items on my 40th bucket list was to become a Eucharistic Minister.  It is something I’ve always wanted to do – ever since I was a little girl in mass.  I finally reached out to my church with my interest and was officially trained to become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.  Even after being trained it took me a few weeks to work up the courage to participate in my first mass.  But, that first time I put myself out there, I realized what an incredibly meaningful and humbling thing it is to serve in this way.  It is also a very moving and deeply powerful feeling to offer the body of Christ to your very own husband and child.  <3

If you are interested in learning more about how Catholics receive communion and our beliefs around the body and blood of Christ, you might like this video – one in a series called Word on Fire by Bishop Robert Barron.  It explains the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and how, when the priest at mass affects the eucharistic change he speaks in the person of Christ.  With the full authority of Christ, his divine words change reality –  bread becomes the body of Christ and wine becomes the blood of Christ.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

  1. Amanda, this is beautiful! So happy for you that you were able to complete this part of your list. ? xo

  2. I’m sure it’s quite beyond words how moving it is for you. While only the priest gives Communion in my church, I have read the gospel in French on Easter Sunday a few times. (It’s read in several languages that particular service.) The first time I was too nervous to fully appreciate it, but the second time was pretty overwhelming!

  3. Good morning. I love this post. What a beautiful way to serve. Do you follow Love Being Catholic on Facebook? It is one of my most favorite pages. She posts so many thoughtful pieces.

  4. I love that you are so open and willing to share your Catholic faith!! What a great example you set for your family! I love Bishop Barron and have followed him since he was Father Barron. I just became an Extraordinary Minister a year ago, and I agree, it is an amazing feeling to serve the body and blood of Christ to your own family.

  5. Wonderful! I was able to be the minister of the cup at my daughter’s First Communion. It was so special and you might want to ask about it when it is Whit’s turn.

  6. You are so brave to share this – so often I feel we Catholics are just despised. You are sharing the true spirit of our faith, which is love. Blessings to you and your loved ones.

  7. Ok now I have something to add to your ” what to do in Memphis”. Visit or attend Mass at our beautiful Cathedral, Immaculate Conception on Central Ave. I think you will like our great city with all everyone has suggested.

  8. Amanda,

    It’s so wonderful that you so freely share your Catholic faith and traditions with all on your blog. Very refreshing!

    I thoroughly enjoyed being a Eucharistic minister at our parish and felt humbled every time I gave communion. What an honor and privilege it has been.

    It’s a gift that you’re giving yourself and your precious family to actively practice your Catholic faith.

  9. I agree with all the above comments. I love how proud you are and admire how openly you share. As a catholic living in the deep South, I have often felt misunderstood and even ostracized, so you encourage me to be more open about my faith. <3
