Ice Cream + Circus Dreams {A Big Apple Circus Surprise}

I mentioned last week that, in lieu of our usual Valentine’s dinner at home, we surprised the boys with tickets to the Big Apple Circus!!  After seeing The Greatest Showman I was really itching to go.  When I asked the boys if they remembered the last time we went to the circus, John did but Whit did not.  I talked to Honey and we figured Valentine’s Day would be a fun night to go.

I surprised them with my very own rendition of the Pirate’s House Carousel Sundae.  It was my favorite treat as a child and I can still vividly picture it showing up on the table when we dined at there!

The darling ice cream bowls were a favor from my neighbor’s Ice Cream Truck birthday party.   I have had everything else for years.

After dinner we headed out for the circus. Sister and her family have gone a few times and always rave about it.  We absolutely loved that it takes place in a tent, with a dirt floor and just one ring.  It was so intimate and there is not a bad seat in the house, as far as I can tell.  We bought our tickets just a couple of weeks in advance and were front row in section 2 (center).  We quite literally could have reached out and touched the performers.  Oh, and the show was accompanied by a live orchestra, which was wonderful.

Big Apple Circus had two absolutely fantastic clowns and your usual awe inspiring acts.  The famous Wallenda Family took to the tight rope.

There were jugglers, contortionists, and a trapeze act.

And a dog and pony show that made my boys’ night.

But for me, it was these giant smiles and peals of laughter that I won’t soon forget.

After the show the performers all take time to meet guests, take photos and answer questions.  It was such a fun way to end the night and the best Valentine’s Day we’ve had in a long, long time.

The Big Apple Circus will be in Atlanta until February 25, before heading to DC.  I highly recommend the show!

    I am so excited to have been invited to an ice cream truck party next month for a friend’s birthday. :-) I found a cute ice cream cone charm bracelet that I’m dying to give to her. <3

    Tell the boys to stop growing up so fast! Unbelievable.
