What We’re Watching Part 3

Y’all, I have never watched so much TV in my life! Between Halloween and the New Year, I’ve done a lot of binging. I’m not at all mad about that either.

Virgin River Season 2

Season 1 took me a bit to get into, but I hit the ground running with season 2 being so happy to have it back. I thought it got off to a bit of a slow start and then ended with so many cliff hangers that I can hardly stand it. I’m ready for season 3 ASAP!

Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris is mindless and adorable. I loved Paris, Emily, her outfits, and the fun drama of her everyday life. This one goes quickly as each episode is only about half an hour. I’m not on pins and needles over another season but I’ll definitely watch it!

The Crown

At long last, I FINALLY watched The Crown. I started it years ago and just didn’t get hooked. I went back to the beginning this time and really enjoyed it. I gobbled up seasons 1 and 2. I enjoyed seeing Elizabeth become queen, her early years with Philip, the palace and all of the pomp and circumstance, and her relationship with Churchill. I thought season 3 was a bit meh. Some of the Parliament stuff droned on for me and I hate to admit I just couldn’t make the transition from Claire Foy to Olivia Coleman as Queen. By the end of season 4 I wasn’t sure I loved the royal family. It all ended with me feeling kind of sad for everyone, and not that interested in the story. I’d love to know what y’all thought!

Side note: I keep getting recommendations for Reign, which I watched back when it first aired on TV. It’s a really good period piece, with a lot of teen drama, good clothes and history.

Bridgerton

I saved the best for last! I just couldn’t stop with Bridgerton!!! I mean, who doesn’t love a basic soap opera with fancy accents, gorgeous gowns, handsome men and balls. (Balls as in the kind where you dance, ladies.) I am giddy for season two and will be counting down the days until I can binge more Bridgerton!

If you enjoyed this series as much as I did, you’ll get a kick out of these themed cocktails.

With that, I’m back to Outlander. It’s been a long time and I’m picking up with season 3.

What are YOU binging?! Do tell!

  1. Fun recommendations! I’ve just started The Crown. As for my recommendations… Schitt’s Creek is not to be missed. My husband and I also enjoyed watching Yellowstone together the past couple of months.

  2. I got hooked on The Crown from the get-go and just couldn’t get enough! Nothing will take the place of Downton Abbey in my opinion but this rates a strong second. I had a little trouble with the transition from Claire Foy to Olivia Coleman too in the role of the Queen. I thought the actress who played Margaret Thatcher was outstanding but I wasn’t crazy about how they portrayed Charles, Diana and Camellia and just felt there was so many pieces of their personalities they didn’t get right or portrayed incorrectly. I am anxiously awaiting the next season!

  3. Love all your recommendations!! Outlander is my all time favorite, I love The Crown and really enjoyed The Queens Gambit, Beth’s outfits, how she struggles and was so smart at the same time & all the great 60’s music!!
    XOXO,
    Lindsey

  4. I am having a hard time with this most recent season of The Crown, too. I loved Bridgerton and I’m so glad it’s coming back. I just finished The Queen’s Gambit which I believe you watched, too. I feel like now I need to learn to play chess. I’m starting Ted Lasso next. Have you watched Schitt’s Creek?

  5. Hi Amanda,
I did enjoy “Bridgerton” and “Virgin River” is fine except for the Annette O’ Toole character who is too obnoxious for words.
Here’s a recc for an excellent binge: OFFSPRING. It’s on Netflix and is about an Australian ob/gyn and her wacky, endearing, profane family. No one seems to know about this show and that’s a shame. I just finished all SEVEN seasons and miss the characters terribly. Check it out.
Other must-see’s: Schitt’s Creek (so much heart and humor), Designated Survivor (Keifer Sutherland is soooo good in this) and The Morning Show (Apple TV, excellent). This assumes everyone has already binged the best dramas (Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul…)

  6. Years ago after binging Downton & Outlander, I watched Poldark and LOVED it! Demelza is one of my favorite heroines of all time! I’m a huge fan of Masterpiece and also LOVE Sanditon!! I’m dying for Season 2! I’m currently watching All Creatures Great and Small and it’s so sweet & charming. The Bonfire of Destiny on Netflix is also a decent period drama set in France. The Dressmaker on Amazon is also incredibly well done!! Just finished The Alienist on HBO and really enjoyed it too! I’m eagerly awaiting season 3. It’s a darker period piece with the feeling of Sherlock & Holmes but there is more mystery. The acting and the wardrobe is superb. I think Vikings is a good follow up for GOT fans especially now the series has ended.

  7. We love All American and Outer Banks – my boys are same ages as yours and there are a few scenes that we forward through, but overall the whole family really enjoyed both of these. Not many shows that we ALL enjoy watching together but these were hits for us.
