Adventures by Disney {Rome: Benvenuto}

Caio from Rome! In celebration of John’s graduation, we let him pick the destination for this summer’s family vacation. The festivities kick off today in Rome! On this initial leg of the trip we look forward to unforgettable experiences and exclusive access as we walk through 3,000 years of history, art and iconic landmarks in a way that only Disney can do.

Arrive in Rome

After an uneventful direct flight from Atlanta, we were met by an Adventures by Disney representative and a warm “Benvenuti a Roma!” They loaded up our luggage and then whisked us away to the hotel. It is SO nice to have someone navigate these logistics in a way that makes vacation seem to start the moment you land.

Marriott Grand Hotel Flora

On arrival at the Marriott Grand Hotel Flora we were greeted by our adventure guides, Camilla and Jacquie. Every adventures includes the incredible assistance, expertise, guidance and friendship of two guides – one local guide and one American guide. We can already tell we will be living the Dolce Vita here! Located right on top of the noble Via Veneto and next door to the Villa Borghese gardens and the 2,000 year old historic Roman walls, the the hotel perfectly captures the grandeur of Neoclassicism. There’s beauty around every turn!

We were delighted to land so much space compared to most hotels in Europe! Our two rooms close off into a suite with a king, twins for the boys and two bathrooms.

Afternoon in Rome

We were SOOOO jetlagged on arrival – none of us slept a wink on the plane. We were thrilled that our rooms were ready when we made it to the hotel at 9AM. We dropped our things and took a power nap until the restaurants opened at 11AM. (Whit couldn’t wake himself up to join us so we let him sleep.) Our guides recommended a delicious little pizzeria where we enjoyed our first lunch al fresco.

Welcome Reception and Dinner

One of my favorite parts of any adventure is the excitement and anticipation of the Welcome Dinner. It’s here that you first meet your fellow Adventurers and learn about the days ahead. The atmosphere is always electric! We first met in the lobby lounge for drinks, hellos and canapes.

And then we made the short and beautiful walk to dinner!

We enjoyed a proper Italian feast with our fellow adventurers and toasted to the next few days of exploring the Eternal City.

Tomorrow we head to the Vatican gardens and museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Colosseum!
