Disney Cruise Line’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point & Cabanas

Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point offers a window into the rich culture, warm hospitality and breathtaking natural beauty of The Bahamas. Here, you will dig your toes into the blush-sand shoreline, dive into the vivid blue waters and be mesmerized by stunning vistas of the shimmering Caribbean Sea, stretching endlessly into the horizon. Disney has tried to sell this port day as a “cultural experience” but I found it to be more in line with a beautiful day at the beach! Nothing wrong with that!

Arriving on Lookout Cay

The biggest point of contention amongst guests visiting Lookout Cay is the loooooong walk from the ship to the trams. There’s no way to make this sound better than it is – it is long! The walkway was designed to protection the ocean and corals. If they hadn’t done it this way, they would have been required to use tender boats. Neither is a perfect, but I do like being able to rely on my own two feet to get back and forth. It’s is about .5 miles from the ship. We made the walk in what felt like a tropical storm… I’m not sure I’d trade that for summer heat. :-)

Guests needing physical assistance can speak to guest services before arriving at the island, earlier in their voyage. A very limited number of golf carts are available for this. There are also first-come first-serve wagons and wheelchairs at the end of the gangway.

I don’t have a photo (re: tropical storm), but once you reach the end of this walkway, there is a tram stop. It is a good distance from the tram stop to when you reach the actual hub of the island at Goombay Cultural Center.

We were fortunate that the skies completely cleared up by lunch! I would have hated to miss all of this absolutely perfect sunshine and water! If you’re familiar with Castaway Cay, one key difference of Lookout Cay is that the beach access is not a curated lagoon blocked off by a wall of rocks. It is clear blue ocean for as far as you can see! I personally loved this. However, there are not floats offered here as they would float right off to sea. You can rent snorkel gear, but there is not a specified lagoon like at Castaway. We didn’t see anything when we tried it out so I wouldn’t spend for that rental.

Adult Escapes at Lookout Cay

Let your cares melt away as you settle into the blissful serenity of our secluded adults-only beach escape.

ADULT-EXCLUSIVE BEACH: Rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit with a tranquil dose of vitamin “sea.” Relax, take a dip in the warm waters and surrender to the calming rhythm of waves lapping against the shore. Ahh, paradise found! The two beaches are adjacent and there is a small sign on a rope delineating the family beach from adult beach. Therefore, you will probably find kids in the adult water space. I liked the beaches themselves here better than at Castaway, especially Serenity Bay!

ADULT MARKET-STYLE DINING: When hunger strikes, make your way to the stylish dining area on the beach for refreshing sips and island-style bites.

ADULT-EXCLUSIVE BARS: With 3 additional adult-exclusive watering holes located across Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, thirst is kept at bay—no matter where you choose to enjoy your day.

Just for Kids

Little ones can let their imaginations soar at Sebastian’s Cove, an island-inspired play land created just for them. Staffed by specially trained Disney Cruise Line counselors, the kids club at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point offers youngsters a day of fun activities and crafts—and adults a day of relaxation and serenity.

WATER PLAY AREA: Kids will have the time of their lives in this splashy wonderland of aquatic fun inspired by The Little Mermaid!

KIDS-ONLY DINING: After working up an appetite playing in the splash pad, kids can enjoy lunch in their own dedicated dining area.

Goombay Cultural Center

The Goombay Cultural Center is the hub of the island. Here, you’ll find amenities, experiences and shopping.

Located at the heart of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point exists our colorful arts and cultural pavilion. Here, special programs and local artists provide Guests with opportunities to learn and celebrate the traditions and natural beauty of The Bahamas.

RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration is the main attraction that you won’t want to miss. In collaboration with the National Junkanoo Committee, Disney developed this unique entertainment offering an authentic rush-out featuring Disney friends.

Characters at Lookout Cay

Of course, you’ll find your favorite friends popping up all over the island during your day. Check the navigator app to find out who will be where and when.

True-True BBQ at Lookout Cay

Let’s talk food – the three dining locations of True-True BBQ, True-True BBQ Too, and Serenity Bay BBQ all serve the same menu. Each location consists of 4 unique food service windows: Beach BBQ Burgers, BB Ribs and Rotisserie Chicken, Chicken and Seafood Rice Bowls, and Flavorful Fish. The food was OK. Nothing to write home about and certainly better than a long trek back to the ship!

Over at the Mabrika Cove Cabanas, cabana guests have an exclusive dining area between cabanas 10 and 11 featuring the same offerings. One unique offering available for cabana guests is made to order steak.

Bars at Lookout Cay

There are four bars dotted around Lookout Cay, all 21+. I highly recommend the Eleuthera Euphoria!

Serenity Bay Cabanas at Lookout Cay

We absolutely loved our cabana experience at Serenity Bay. I loved some of the new additions and amenities compared to those at Castaway Cay. Cabanas are available to guest the entire day that you’re in port.

Y’all come on in!

Inside the cabana you’ll find plenty of seating both indoors and out. The decor and colors were absolutely perfect.

There is a spacious closet with a safe, towels, sunscreen, snacks and fruit to enjoy. A selection of non-alcoholic beverages are in the mini fridge, along with a plate of cool towels! There are two outlets for charging your electronics.

We loved the glass doors that could be shut when the rain was coming in sideways. A great addition. With the fan on and the doors shut, we actually got a little chilly!

A smart pad in your cabana allows you to play music, request towels and even order drinks delivered to your door! A GREAT amenity! We used this all day long.

The fruit was fresh and delicious.

Outdoors you’ll find a double lounger, as well as a table and chairs.

The beach at Serenity Bay is tiered. Cabana guests have exclusive access to the upper beach, with a boardwalk taking you down the dunes to the community beach. This is spectacular! It is so quiet and each cabana has a set of reserved loungers, chairs and umbrella just a few steps away.

While we were offered a golf cart ride it did not take us to the ship – only to the tram station that was a few steps away on our own.

Family Cabanas at Lookout Cay

I’m going to have to keep from making a statement about my opinion on the family cabanas since we didn’t enjoy one. There are just some things I’m not willing to sacrifice even for a review, and one of those is hanging on the family beach all day when I could be at Serenity Bay :-)

What I noted was just how far they are from the rest of the island amenities. I think you’ll get a beautiful, very exclusive beach experience here. And, they do have location for lunch. To give you an idea of location, they are on the strip of the island facing the ship. This photo was taken from my stateroom. If you look on top of the land mass about 1/4 of the way over from the left you’ll see a white ball poking out of the trees. THAT is the main hub of the island!

Regarding cabana availability, the fact of the matter is that if you do not sail concierge you will not get one. There are not enough cabanas to go around to every concierge guest, even at the moment they can be requested. For all requests they cannot accommodate, they put them on a waitlist. The inventory never goes into the website for people to grab on their own. As far as being concierge and getting a cabana, I have pretty decent luck for my clients. On the occasion I’ve had to waitlist one, it has always been filled just before sailing, or once on the ship. The price of your stateroom, size of your party and Castaway Club status do not seem to make a difference in who gets one. If cabanas are very important to you, sail on a smaller ship! We were on the Magic which holds only 2,400 passengers. The Disney Wish holds 4,000. So, as you can imagine, island days feel a lot less crowded on the Magic then on the Wish.

Heading Back to the Ship

From the time we left our cabana to the time we were back on the ship was 45 minutes. That gives you a good idea of just how far the main resort area of the island is from the ship. There was an extremely long line of guests waiting on a golf cart ride from the tram back to the ship. I advise packing light, wearing hats and braving it on your own two feet if you’re at all able.
