Magic Abounds on the Disney Magic {Day 1: Sail Away, Staterooms, Concierge Lounge, Onboard Activities, Lumiere’s}

Honey and I set sail on the Disney Magic last week! The Magic was the very first ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and is just wonderful. It’s significantly smaller in size, feels less crowded everywhere, and is loaded with cast and crew that are passionate about service and magic.

Disney Cruise Line Terminal Port Everglades

Disney’s new terminal at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is lovely and extremely easy logistically! We stayed at the Ritz Fort Lauderdale (recap coming soon) and it was a quick Uber to port.

Concierge guests enjoy a reception area before boarding, and expedited access to the ship.

Concierge Welcome Lunch

Once we were welcomed on to the ship, we were off to Lumiere’s for the concierge lunch. This is always a nice and relaxing way to start the voyage. Concierge hosts are on hand to get to know you from the very first moment, and assist with any questions or needs.

Disney Magic Stateroom

Our stateroom was ready by the time we finished lunch and we couldn’t wait to change into swimsuits and hit the pool! This is a Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. It sleeps 5 and is intentionally designed for that. The sofa converts to a bed, and a twin upper berth pops down from the ceiling. The 5th bed folds down from the wall just in front of the verandah doors. The sleeping spaces are separated by a curtain. A split bath is convenient! We’ve sailed on many cruise lines and NONE are this well designed.

It’s been so long since I’ve sailed the Magic that I couldn’t resist exploring a bit.

Concierge Lounge on the Disney Magic

When the skies opened up, we popped into the concierge lounge next to check out the recent renovation. The lounge was expanded and redesigned and is just gorgeous!

We settled in with our books on the sundeck in these amazing rockers overlooking the adult pool. We were protected from the rain, but got to enjoy the salt air and solitude for a few hours. It was bliss!

Happy Hour

We prefer the late dinner seating on Disney Cruise Line, starting around 8PM. We find it doesn’t cut our day so short and it is less crowded and quieter with fewer young kids. We headed to the concierge lounge for happy hour at 5PM. Got a few small bites, a few cocktails and played cards! This became our routine each night.

Disney Music Trivia

I tell all my clients that you do not want to over-plan your cruise! There is SO MUCH to do on the ship. We love all of various trivia offerings – lots of subject matters and options for all ages and adult only.

Lumiere’s Dining Room

Disney is the only cruise line that offers rotational dining – meaning every family is automatically scheduled to enjoy every dining room! There is no need to stress about reservations. You will receive your restaurant schedule and table number upon arrival by checking your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. Then, each evening, you, your tablemates and servers will rotate to a different restaurant. As you rotate, the same wait staffโ€”who know your preferencesโ€”will serve you each night while you get to experience the unique atmosphere of each dining venue.

Relive the magic of Beauty and the Beast at this restaurant named after the scheming candelabra from the hit movie.

Make your way into a spacious ballroom, where grand glowing roses hang in wondrous glass domes and golden Art Deco columns mingle with a sweeping mural depicting the classic ballroom sequence from the hit Disney film. Inside, you are invited to fall in love with freshly prepared and artfully presented French and American cuisine, as you celebrate one of the greatest romances of all time: the love of Beauty and the Beast.

Magic Quest

I LOVE late nights on DCL! After dinner we popped by the concierge lounge for a drink to go and were off to Magic Quest. Magic Quest is a scavenger hunt in the room where you are. So, it is helpful to have a bag of stuff, a phone with photos and a creative mind that can act out any scenario. You may be asked for something with the Disney Cruise Line logo on it, in which case you run up with your key card. OR you may be asked to see your favorite pet, in which case you could show a photo or just act out barking and licking for a point. The first two teams get more points. Everyone else that comes up with something gets one point.

And finally, it was time to start night 1 of one of the best nights of sleep of your life. There is no sleep like cruise line sleep!
