After setting up our group and teaching the crew the game last month, we had our first evening of mahjong last week and it was a huge success! I already had Valentine’s touches up around the house, so things felt festive.

We had 16 players and set up 4 tables – 2 in the den, 1 in my office and 1 in the living room.

Arrivals are at 6:30, with game play starting promptly at 7. The first half hour was used for a few bites and sips. We had a birthday girl with us and her husband was so sweet to drop of a cake and balloons earlier in the day. She was SO SURPRISED! Needless to say, we all enjoyed celebrating our DC!

Since it was our first time playing and we have a variety of comfort levels in the group, I labeled each table with 1 (least comfortable), 2, or 3 (high comfort level). Players assigned themselves to the table of their choice on arrival. I put tables 1 and 3 together in the den so the 3s could assist in answering questions. The other two tables were 2s. It worked well! I don’t think we’ll do this forever, but it was a nice way to start playing.

How fun! Your house is just beautiful!!
What mahjong tile set do you suggest buying?
Mine is from Hobby Lobby – $20.
I’m still playing bunco lol. I need to visit an existing group and learn so I can get mahjong going.
You are the fun creator of your group!
