We’re back from our multigenerational sailing aboard the beautiful Disney Destiny, and I’m still riding high from the experience.
I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again: Disney Cruise Line remains our family’s favorite way to vacation. It is quite literally the only vacation we’ve found where every single person genuinely enjoys themselves. We’ve been sailing together since our youngest cruiser was just four months old, and now the oldest is twenty. Through every stage and phase, it has been a hit.

And so begins this trip diary.

Day 1: Sailing Away
Since we were sailing Concierge, we were all aboard the ship by 11:30 AM. Honestly, it felt like gaining an entire extra vacation day.

We kicked things off with a delicious Concierge welcome lunch at 1923. It is always such a relaxing way to begin a cruise. No buffets, no crowds, no rushing. Just a wonderful meal and the excitement of knowing the vacation is officially underway.

From there, everyone scattered to begin exploring.
The adults headed off to check out our staterooms, unpack and get settled while the kids immediately took off to investigate the clubs and every corner of the ship.
For this sailing, each family chose a Concierge Family Stateroom with Verandah, and it was the perfect fit. These rooms are so intentionally designed for families, with thoughtful storage, comfortable sleeping arrangements and plenty of space for everyone to spread out. I would comfortably recommend them for a family of four.

Before long, it was time for one of my favorite cruise traditions: the sail away celebration.
There is just something about that first party on deck that immediately shifts everyone into vacation mode. The music, the characters, the excitement in the air… it is impossible not to smile.

Afterward, we headed up to the Concierge Sun Deck to enjoy the ocean breeze as we began our journey from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas. The views were beautiful and it was the perfect place to slow down and soak it all in.

As is our nightly routine, we regrouped later in the Concierge Lounge for happy hour and snacks. Some members of our group headed off to the evening stage show while others continued relaxing on the sun deck.
That flexibility is one of the things I love most about cruising. Everyone can vacation exactly the way they want.

That evening we all met up for dinner at Worlds of Marvel. It was such a fun way to kick off the cruise. The guys especially loved participating in the interactive trivia and challenges throughout the meal, and it gave everyone plenty to talk about afterward.

Once dinner wrapped up, everyone split off in their own directions. The kids headed for the clubs. Some of the adults called it a night.
Honey and I, however, made our way to one of the adult entertainment venues for a Marvel-themed comedy show that absolutely had us laughing out loud. It was clever, funny and the perfect ending to our first day onboard.

And just like that, Day One was in the books. A beautiful ship, blue skies, family all together and an entire sailing still ahead of us. The perfect beginning.
