Disney Destiny Travel Diary {Day 2: Lookout Cay & Birthday Celebrations}

Day two was an especially fun one because it happened to be my nephew Jay’s birthday!

We woke up to find ourselves already docked at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney Cruise Line’s newest island destination in The Bahamas.

After coffee and breakfast in the Concierge Lounge, our party of nine headed ashore, ready for a full day in the sunshine.

Lookout Cay is absolutely beautiful. While Disney’s Castaway Cay feels classic, tropical and familiar, Lookout Cay has a completely different personality. Inspired by the culture, colors and spirit of The Bahamas, it feels vibrant, fresh and distinctly its own. I love that Disney’s Bahamian itineraries can include both islands because they offer such different experiences.

We spent the day soaking up gorgeous sunshine, sea breezes and some of the clearest water you can imagine.

One thing to know if you’re planning a visit: shade can be a bit limited here compared to Castaway Cay. We were very thankful for sunscreen, hats and plenty of hydration throughout the day.

The crystal-clear water also makes this an excellent spot for snorkeling. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach, exploring the water or simply enjoying the scenery, there is more than enough to fill an entire day.

We enjoyed lunch on the island before the grandparents and boys decided to head back to the ship. The rest of us lingered much closer to all aboard time, unwilling to give up one more minute of that beautiful beach day. That’s one thing I love about Disney’s island destinations. You can spend the entire day ashore if you want, or easily retreat back to the ship whenever you’re ready. There is no wrong way to do it.

Back onboard, everyone reconvened on the concierge sun deck in the little wading pool and hot tub!

Honey and I attended Trouble Making with Cruella, which remains one of my favorite entertainment offerings on the ship. Cruella is absolutely hilarious and the audience interaction makes every performance a little different. Meanwhile, the kids were fully immersed in activities throughout the youth clubs.

As always, we regrouped for happy hour and snacks in the Concierge Lounge before heading to dinner.

The birthday boy requested Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, so that’s where we celebrated. Between the live music, beautiful performances and delicious food, it was a wonderful choice for a birthday dinner.

Afterward, everyone once again headed off in their own directions. The boys made their way to the teen club. CeeCee and Sister spent the evening making the rounds for character meet-and-greets. And Honey and I stayed out late enjoying two of our favorite adult-only events onboard: Heard That? and Match Your Mate. Both are guaranteed laughs and have become cruise traditions for us at this point.

As we finally headed back to our stateroom that night, tired from a full beach day and full of birthday memories, it felt like one of those perfect cruise days where everyone did exactly what they wanted and somehow still ended up making memories together.

Those are always the best kind.
